I’m all about mashed egg and avocado sandwiches. I’ve made so many variations of it, including this Smashed Chickpea and Avocado Salad Sandwich. Traditionally, an egg salad sandwich is made with mayonnaise, instead, we’re gonna use avocado which is a healthier alternative.

This particular recipe was inspired by the Viral Chopped Italian Sandwich first seen on TikTok. I just had to make a desi version of this sandwich using boiled eggs. Hope you guys enjoy this recipe.

What is the Viral Chopped Sandwich?

The Viral Chopped Sandwich first gained popularity on TikTok. The original chopped sandwich is Italian and made with deli meats, cheese, lettuce, banana peppers, oil, and vinegar.

The idea behind this chopped sandwich is essentially all your ingredients are placed on a cutting board, chopped, and mixed. The result is mindblowing because you get every single ingredient in every bite – it’s so good.

Of course, I had to make a desi version of this sandwich and since I don’t do deli meats, I opted for eggs. This is a classic mashed avocado and egg combined with veggies and Indian spices. Combine all the ingredients on a chopping board and chop away. Enjoy with toasted bread.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Easy – This sandwich is made with simple ingredients and so easy to make. Just chop away, literally.
  • Mouthwatering – Enjoy every ingredient in every bite since all the ingredients are chopped up.
  • Versatile – You can enjoy this egg salad with whole wheat bread, lavash bread, or wraps.

Ingredients

Ingredients for viral chopped avocado egg salad sandwich.
  • Avocado – You’ll need 1 ripe whole avocado. Mash the avocado along with the rest of the ingredients.
  • Eggs – This recipe calls for 3 boiled eggs which makes 3 servings. Feel free to add 1 more if you’d like to serve 4 people.
  • Veggies – Romaine Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Cucumbers, Green Chilies, and Fresh Garlic. You may add additional veggies, such as bell peppers, purple cabbage, or anything else you like.
  • Spices – You’ll need most Indian spices such as Red Chili Powder, Kashmiri Chili Powder, Coriander Powder, Cumin Powder, and Salt.
  • Lemon Juice – You’ll need freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Bread – I love this avocado egg salad on whole wheat bread. You can also enjoy this on sourdough bread, wraps, or lavash bread.

Substitutions

  • Eggs – For those of you who don’t eat eggs, use firm tofu instead. Make sure to press the tofu so all the excess water has been removed.
  • Green Chilies – For less spice, you may substitute jalapenos in this recipe. Serrano peppers would work great, however they’re quite spicy as well. Also, you may omit red chili powder in this recipe.

Cutting Board – Use a large wooden cutting board – you will need a good amount of space so you can chop and mix the ingredients well. Here is a highly rated Greener Cutting Board.

Eggs – Boil eggs and then peel before proceeding.

Serving Suggestions

I personally love Nisha’s recipes because of the flavors. This sandwich was a perfect brunch option for us on a very hot day. I used pickled jalapenos instead of onions and served it on a brioche slider bun. Keeping this in our summer recipes rotation because my 20 month old toddler loved it too.
