Hi there! Welcome!
My name is Nisha, and this is my little creation, my first baby, which I like to call Honey, What’s Cooking!
I’m an Indian-American food enthusiast originally from Jersey City, NJ. Now based in sunny California, I live with my husband and our sweet little boy. Although my upbringing was predominantly Indian, my mom often infused fusion flavors when making American, Italian, and Mexican food. She showed her love through food. To this day, nothing makes me happier than a home-cooked meal. That’s love!
With over 25 years of cooking experience and a love for both traditional Indian dishes and creative fusion recipes that bridge cultural culinary boundaries, I’m here to inspire you to bring these flavors into your own kitchen.
My Cooking Journey
I started my blog in October 2009 as a hobby. I loved to cook, but there was so little information online about how to cook Indian food. I started Honey, What’s Cooking as a way to share my thoughts and recipes with the world. I’m so proud of my blog and the years of work and effort I’ve put in.
As a child, I was always fond of cooking. I hung out with my mom in the kitchen and watched her make various dishes, such as samosas, parathas, pizza, and poori, all from scratch. I baked my first cake at 14 – it wasn’t perfect, but I kept at it until I got it right. In college, I would visit my best friend’s home and spend more time learning how to make a recipe with her mom than with my BFF. Lol.
Being of Indian origin with a Punjabi background, I bring authentic flavors to my recipes while developing my fusion style that blends my Indian and American influences.

My Recipe Development Process
Every recipe on Honey, What’s Cooking is thoroughly tested in my home kitchen multiple times before being shared with you. I’ve shared over 500 recipes on my blog. Additionally, I take my own photos using my favorite Canon 5D camera and record all of my videos. I document each recipe with step-by-step photos and detailed instructions to ensure you can recreate the dish successfully in your own kitchen.
Here is my recipe testing process:
- The first time I make a dish, I make it with love, without any measurements.
- Next rounds involve quite a bit of testing using different ingredients and techniques.
- Once the recipe is perfected to my standards – I am my biggest critic, I write down exact measurements.
- Before publishing, I love getting feedback from my husband, mother-in-law, and a few friends.
Lastly, I also needed a place to document my mom’s recipes because she never gives me exact ones; everything is andaza (winging it) – iykyk. I’ve learned from her and many others on this journey. I’ve tested recipes repeatedly until I get them right.
What You’ll Find On Honey, What’s Cooking
Honey, What’s Cooking is an Indian food blog featuring authentic Indian recipes alongside global fusion creations. Here, you’ll find many classic Indian recipes passed down from my mom, as well as Indian Fusion recipes that highlight my love for both Indian and Western flavors.
During the festive season, I love whipping Indian Fusion Desserts incorporating cardamom, saffron, and rose flavors. The best feeling is when I receive positive feedback on a recipe’s success at a party or get-together. Nothing makes me happier than bringing people together over food.
I use simple, real ingredients and love incorporating seasonal produce in my cooking. I provide honest cooking times with detailed photos, making the process easy to follow. I also regularly update older recipes as they become outdated.
I hope to inspire you to cook more at home, explore new flavors, and enjoy the process along the way. I hope you’ll find something you like here.
Professional Background & Education
I have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I have worked in software development for Corporate America giants for many years. After having my baby, I decided to stay home and focus on motherhood while working on my blog full-time.
My technical background has enabled me to work on this blog’s frontend and backend aspects. I still love problem-solving and working on technical issues. Additionally, my technical background has helped me approach recipe development with precision and attention to detail, treating each recipe as a project that requires planning, testing, development, documentation, and execution.

Reader Testimonials
“I’ve been a long-time fan of this blog and love trying new recipes. This Palak Paneer is absolutely a keeper, and I’m just upset I don’t have enough leftover for tomorrow’s lunch. I followed this recipe exactly, except I omitted the green chillies. From my picky kiddos to my even more picky Dad, this was a hit! Everyone had seconds and third,s and my amazing chef of a Dad called it “tasty!” I served this with basmati rice, Kawan paratha, and some dal. Thanks, Nisha…can’t wait to make this again and will double it next time.” – Monali P.
“Dear Nisha, I live in Western Canada. I saw your recipe for Pineapple Banana Coconut bread, so I decided to give it a try. It was soooo delicious & so easy to make. I intend to make it over & over again. Followed your recipe, but just had peanuts & cashew nuts on hand, so used them instead. It made a BIG loaf, so I was able to treat all my family & friends. I can’t thank you enough. Keep sending recipes.” – Lyla
“I have made this recipe three times in the last three months: for Thanksgiving, New Year’s Eve, and most recently, for the Super Bowl. All three times, it has been a great hit, and people have requested the recipe from me. The flavors are amazing and blend beautifully together. I will definitely be making it again, especially for parties and potlucks.” – Ritu S.
“This was absolutely phenomenal. There is a Thai curry place across the street from me that is very expensive, but I adore their tofu red curry and was never able to successfully make it at home. His recipe was so easy and exactly what I needed. Can’t wait to make it again! Thank you so much!” – Kristina
“I made this for the Super Bowl today, and it was amazing! I think the way in which Nisha writes her recipes and makes the steps so easy to follow is a true game-changer. The hack of draining your tomatoes is A++, and the veggie mixture in general takes this classic to the next level. I’ve made tons of her recipes and each and every one is spiced correctly (that’s NOT easily said for recipes found online) and flavor-packed!” – Natasha M.

More About Me
My passions include cooking, baking, eating, traveling, and watching hours of the Food Network. I’m originally from Jersey City, NJ, and I love exploring the various facets of New York City, where I enjoy a variety of cuisines and learn about different cultures.
Although I grew up in the United States, I was raised in an Indian family with strong family values and an emphasis on education.
Now, I live in sunny Southern California with my husband. Yes, I moved for love, and you can read all about my favorite love story here (part 1 & part 2). I think Karan Johar needs to make a movie about our love story! Lol.
Moving across the country was hard for me, but it was the best decision of my life. It taught me to step out of my comfort zone and explore a world beyond NJ/NYC. New York City will always have my heart, but California is slowly growing on me. 😊
I also have the sweetest, happiest, funniest little boy, and I’m having so much fun with him. Motherhood is a blessing.
