Avocado Egg Salad Sandwich is inspired by the Viral Chopped Sandwich. This Indian-inspired sandwich is easy, versatile, and so full of flavor. It comes together within minutes and makes a great healthy breakfast or brunch.
I’m all about mashed egg and avocado sandwiches. I’ve made so many variations of it, including this Smashed Chickpea and Avocado Salad Sandwich. Traditionally, an egg salad sandwich is made with mayonnaise, instead, we’re gonna use avocado which is a healthier alternative.
This particular recipe was inspired by the Viral Chopped Italian Sandwich first seen on TikTok. I just had to make a desi version of this sandwich using boiled eggs. Hope you guys enjoy this recipe.

What is the Viral Chopped Sandwich?
The Viral Chopped Sandwich first gained popularity on TikTok. The original chopped sandwich is Italian and made with deli meats, cheese, lettuce, banana peppers, oil, and vinegar.
The idea behind this chopped sandwich is essentially all your ingredients are placed on a cutting board, chopped, and mixed. The result is mindblowing because you get every single ingredient in every bite – it’s so good.
Of course, I had to make a desi version of this sandwich and since I don’t do deli meats, I opted for eggs. This is a classic mashed avocado and egg combined with veggies and Indian spices. Combine all the ingredients on a chopping board and chop away. Enjoy with toasted bread.

Substitutions
- Eggs – For those of you who don’t eat eggs, use firm tofu instead. Make sure to press the tofu so all the excess water has been removed.
- Green Chilies – For less spice, you may substitute jalapenos in this recipe. Serrano peppers would work great, however they’re quite spicy as well. Also, you may omit red chili powder in this recipe.

I am making this for a meeting this Saturday. But, I can’t find Domaine des Vignes Herbal Dijon Mustard ANYWHERE. Not in stores, not online. Everyone says it’s out of stock and they don’t know when it will be in. Apparently, this isn’t a popular enough brand to warrant stores carrying it. I did find one site, but it wanted to send me 6 jars. Yikes, I don’t need 6, only 1. Can I just use dijon mustard instead?
Sure, you can use dijon mustard instead. This recipe is old and the brand of mustard I mentioned is old too, and probably nonexistent by now. Once you try the egg salad sandwich with dijon, you’ll realize why I added it.
My husband one day took 1/2 an avacado and mixed it with a chopped cooked egg, some salt and pepper, crisp romaine lettuce on toast. Delish! I love egg salad sandwiches and this is yummy. So now I always have hard boiled eggs and avacados on hand.
@Anonymous – sorry for the delay, of course, you can totally substitute spinach for watercress. 🙂
Looks wonderful! I wonder if I could substitute baby spinach for the watercress?
Personally, I think you could sub sprouted greens (bean sprouts), or any leafy lettuce.
What did you use for the mustard as I can’t find her specific brand anywhere and the online sites says it’s out of stock with no idea of coming in.
Oh yummy! I love egg salad sandwiches and it sounds even better with avocado 🙂
You should try veganese half of the calories of mayanoise! Since avocados are very creamy and high in calories I don't think you would need though! Can't wait to try it! Looks delicious:)
This looks delicious! I think that I shall make it for dinner tonight!
nice posting.. thanks for sharing.
I tried making this for lunch, and it was really delicious and easy to make. Thanks for sharing!
