Sofitel London St. James is a beautiful 5-star property located in the heart of London and just a 5-minute walk to Trafalgar Square.

at least 4 nights in London

RECOMMENDED DISTRICTSCovent Garden, Soho, Piccadilly, St. James, Oxford Circus

    VERDICT: 4.5 / 5
Excellent Stay.  Although this hotel boasts a 5 star rating, I believe it is more along the lines of a 4.5 stars.  Upon arrival, we were handed fresh Guava Pineapple Juice which was quite refreshing after a long journey.  In addition, my husband and I also received a free upgrade which was very much appreciated.  In general, when staying in Europe, my philosophy is to spend on location and a nice room since European standards tend to be lower than American standards.  Highly Recommended.

Pros: Centrally located.  5 minute walk from Piccadilly Circus & Trafalgar Square.  Although close to Piccadilly, it is away from all the noise & chaos.  Beautiful Lobby.  Classic luxury Rooms/Bathrooms.  Comfortable Beds.  Very Accommodating Staff.  Excellent French Press Coffee.

Cons: French style shower with only ½ a door, this is more cultural than anything else.  Small Window – not enough light.  Small Rooms, although expected in London.

Future Stays in London, I have my heart set on:
St. Martins Lane Hotel (Covent Garden)  The Langham Hotel (Marylebone/Oxford St.)

TELL ME: Have you been to London?  If so, what are some of your hotel recommendations?

I gotta say- as familiar as I am with London, recommending hotels is not my forte. That's probably because I've never had to stay in a hotel here but at least I do know where to point people in future. Sofitel sounds like a great hotel especially given its location. As much as I love luxurious hotels, location plays a huge role in deciding where to stay!

Did I recommend the Langham to you? I have no idea why I did that because that hotel is super claustrophobic. I do recommend the Stafford Kempinski and the Rocco Forte Browns Hotel (my top 2). I definitely want to try the Sofitel now too.

Sofitel looks so cute, that is such a refreshing way to greet u with guava juice. Its a nice change from a generic choice such as apple or cranberry. How did you go about getting the upgrade. B

@Khushboo - Of course, I have the same issue with NYC, but I do have some idea by just walking around. Sofitel was awesome.. I agree with you, location makes a huge difference, and that's #1 on my list too.

@Ameena - LOL.. your comment made me laugh. Yes, you recommended the Langham, but I still think it looks so nice. Will definitely consider looking into the other 2 though. 🙂

@Anonymous/B - Well, in order to get the upgrade, I simply asked for one. 🙂 Most of the time it works, especially at nicer hotels. The guava juice was so good. Thanks.
