Hi there! I’m Nisha.
My name is Nisha, and Honey, What’s Cooking is my first baby – my little creation that started as a hobby and grew into something I’m incredibly proud of.
I’m an Indian-American food enthusiast originally from New Jersey, now based in sunny Southern California, where I live with my husband and our son. Although my upbringing was predominantly Indian, my mom often infused fusion flavors into American, Italian, and Mexican dishes. She showed her love through food. To this day, nothing makes me happier than a home-cooked meal. That’s love!
With over 25 years of cooking experience and a love for both traditional Indian dishes and creative fusion recipes, I’m here to inspire you to bring these flavors into your own kitchen.

My Cooking Journey
I started my blog in October 2009 as a hobby. There was so little information online about how to cook Indian food, and I wanted to change that. I’m so proud of the years of work and effort I’ve put into it.
As a child, I was always drawn to the kitchen. I watched my mom make samosas, parathas, pizza, and poori – all from scratch. I baked my first cake at 14. It wasn’t perfect, but I kept at it until I got it right. In college, I’d visit my best friend’s home and spend more time learning recipes with her mom than hanging out with my BFF. Lol.
Being of Indian origin with a Punjabi background, I bring authentic flavors to my recipes while developing a fusion style that blends my Indian and American influences.
Professional Background & Education
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. I spent many years working in software development for some of Corporate America’s biggest names. After having my son, I decided to stay home to focus on motherhood while working on the blog full-time.
My technical background has shaped how I approach recipe development – with precision, planning, testing, and execution. I still love problem-solving, and it shows in every recipe I publish.
More About Me
My passions include cooking, baking, eating, traveling, and watching way too many hours of the Food Network.
I grew up in the suburbs of New Jersey and spent my adult years in downtown Jersey City, with New York City right at my doorstep. Those years of exploring the city’s endless food scene – different cuisines, cultures, and neighborhoods – shaped who I am as a cook. New York City will always have my heart, but California is slowly growing on me.
I moved to Southern California for love – and it was the best decision of my life. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and opened up a whole new world beyond NJ/NYC. You can read all about my favorite love story here (part 1 & part 2) – Karan Johar, please take notes. Lol.
I also have the sweetest, happiest, funniest little boy. Motherhood is a blessing, and I’m having so much fun with him.
