Romantic restaurants in St. Thomas, USVI. Incredible food with a sunset view. Check out these recommendations for upscale dining.
There are plenty of romantic restaurants in St. Thomas that offer a sunset view. For me, a sunset view and a good meal were both criteria. Although youβll find quite a few cuisines to choose from, American and Caribbean food seem to be the most popular on the island, in addition to seafood being on practically everyΒ menu. Most days I ate a very light brunch and then ate my heart during dinner. What can I sayβ¦ I love food! Here are some amazing restaurants to dine at in St. Thomas. Enjoy!
1. The Blue Orchid @ The St. Peter Greathouse and Botanical Gardens
The best meal on the entire trip! This restaurant sits high up on St. Peter Mountain and boasts spectacular views of the island. Getting here is a pain, but the food is phenomenal. A must-do!
This is the insane view Iβm talking about!
Cocktails
Caribbean Martini (left): Coconut rum & pineapple juice. A bit too sweet and light.
Bellini (right): Proseco & peach nectar. Not as sweet, tasted like champagne. My favorite out of the two.
Complimentary Bread + Starter & Greens
Bread & Butter (top right): Such soft and warm bread. The butter melts in your mouth. I could have walked out of Blue Orchid so content with just bread & butter.
Radicchio & Arugula Salad (bottom right): Prepared with pinenuts, pecans, grapes, pear, parmesan & lemon-truffle vinaigrette. This salad was out of this world, and for me it was the truffle dressing. So divine. One of the best salads I have ever had.
Eggplant Bruschetta (left): Crostinis served with a side of roasted eggplant, sundried tomato, roma tomatoes, roasted peppers, fresh mozzarella with a drizzle of pesto. I loved this appetizer, the roasted peppers and eggplant added depths of flavor. The cheese was very fresh and tasted homemade.
Main Plates
Grouper with Honey Chipotle Glaze (top): The grouper sat over a bed of potatoes and was topped with a mango-lime salsa and a piece of fried shrimp. The dish was slightly sweet and the fish was perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, this dish was a Special so it isnβt on the menu every night, but definitely inquire about it.
Oven Roasted Sea Bass (bottom): Toasted almond-dill butter with shaved asparagus, arugula & artichoke. The sea bass was so soft along with the buttery mashed potatoes. The almond-dill sauce complemented this dish really well. Outstanding. A favorite.
Desserts & Coffee
Island Rum Cake (top right): The cake was a bit dry, however the candied walnuts were delicious.
Chocolate Truffle Cake (bottom right): A rich, yet light dessert. Chocolaty! Better of the 2 desserts.
RESTAURANT REVIEW: Blue Orchid
COST: $$$$
CUISINE: American/Caribbean/Seafood
FAVORITES: Complimentary Bread & Butter | Eggplant Bruschetta | Radicchio & Arugula Salad | Grouper with Honey Chipotle Glaze | Oven Roasted Sea Bass
VERDICT: 4.75 / 5
Blue Orchid was an amazing experience. The food here is phenomenal. Flavors such as almond-dill butter, honey glaze chipotle, lemon-truffle vinaigrette were unique and not flavors that I am used to. The desserts were the only disappointment, but with a meal like that, I got over it very quickly. Outstanding restaurant and a must-do in St. Thomas!

2. Sunset Grille @ Secret Harbour Beach Resort
Casual & elegant restaurant, excellent service, great food with breathtaking sunset views.
Cocktails
Caribbean Cosmo: Although this drink is prepared with passion fruit, the flavor wasnβt apparent. Instead it tastes more like cranberry and coconut mixed in with vodka. Strong, yet smooth. Good drink.
Pure Passion: Prepared with passion fruit rum and liqueur, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and a splash of fresh lime juice. This cocktail was full of flavor and delicious. A favorite!
Complimentary Starters + Appetizer
Amuse-bouche (top left): Zucchini poblana frittata with a southwest salad and shrimp. This was pretty good.
Poppy Seed Bread (top right): Warm, soft and went perfectly with the EVOO and balsamic vinegar. The bread was amazing!
Conch Fritters (bottom): The pineapple-jalapeno aioli sauce was unreal, there was so much flavor and it wasn't too spicy. The conch was fried, so obviously good.
Sea & Land
Grilled Mango Mahi Mahi (left): The coconut flavored Jasmine rice sitting over a bed of mango cream was outstanding. The green mango slaw paired with the mahi mahi was really good.
Jerk Chicken (right): There was so much going on in this dish. The jerk chicken was a bit spicy which was nice, however the chicken was a bit dry. The rice and black beans were delicious, in addition to the sweet plantains. I loved this dish, if the chicken wasnβt chewy, this would have been phenomenal.
Dessert
Warm Banana Bread Pudding: I was really looking forward to this dessert, but it was a let down. This dessert was just too sweet, there wasnβt enough flavor. I wasnβt able to taste the rum or the banana, it just tasted sweet.

Sunset Grille was my first meal in St. Thomas. The sunset views here are spectacular and the food is very good. I still reminisce about that bread with EVOO and balsamic, I had to stop myself from carb overload. The ambience here is romantic, casual and laidback. Just FYI to not confuse this restaurant with Sunset Grill at the Marriott.

3. Sails @ The Ritz Carlton St. Thomas
Enjoy the fresh catch of the day and live music every Tuesday and Saturday at this casual, oceanfront dining spot. Excellent food and drinks!
Complimentary Bread + Cocktails & Starter
Bread & Sundried Tomato Butter (bottom right): The sundried tomato butter was delicious β I have to replicate this at home. The bread was soft and warm. Really good!
Crystalβs Blue Lagoon & Guava Colada (bottom left): Both drinks were good, sweet and not too strong!
Shrimp Salad (top): Salad was fresh, and the shrimp was seasoned well with lots of black pepper. Excellent.
Entrees
Pan-Seared Grouper (top): Grouper grilled perfectly, tender, but a bit bland for me. Coconut rice was so incredibly flavorful. Combined the two and this was a pretty good dish.
Pan-Seared Snapper (bottom): Snapper was soft and delicious. I loved the sweet plantains, they werenβt oily. The cilantro based sauce on top was fresh, and I especially loved the pineapple and red pepper bits on top which contributed to some sweetness to this dish. A favorite!
Coffee & Dessert
Coffee: Excellent! BEST COFFEE on the entire trip.
Red Velvet Cheesecake: Although the cheesecake was good and creamy, it lacked that "cocoa flavor" that's required in a red velvet cake.

On my last night in St. Thomas, I dined at Sails which is located at The Ritz Carlton, a beautiful property in St. Thomas. The ambience at Sails was lovely, listening to the sound of the waves crashing + live music was very soothing. Overall, the meal was excellent and our server, Sheeba, was very warm and friendly. I hope to return to St. Thomas someday and look forward to dining at Sails and other Ritz Carlton restaurants in St. Thomas.

4. Havana Blue @ Marriott Frenchmanβs Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort
A dreamy restaurant with absolutely stunning views. Experience fine dining at this Latin-American and Asian establishment. The MOST ROMANTIC restaurant on my trip. A must-do!
Cocktails & Apertivos
Blueberry Mojito (left-left): Blueberry vodka blended with fresh mint, lime and blueberries. Excellent, but strong. I was so hit after just half my drink.
Classic Mojito (left-right): Rum blended with fresh mint and lime. Very good, but strong.
Langosta Tostadas (right): Essentially these are lobster tacos and they were exceptionally good. A little corn tostada shell consisted of lobster, shrimp, aioli, truffled arugula, red onion, jalapeno, bacon crumble and queso blanco. You can really taste the truffle flavor in this lobster taco. A favorite!
Miso Sea Bass (top): Miso lemongrass sea bass over garlic spinach and a smoked wasabi mash. The sea bass tasted like butter, it literally melted in my mouth. I have no words for this dish, just delectable. A favorite!
Mahi Maho Mahi (bottom): Pan-seared crusted mahi mahi with citrus jicama slaw over creamy risotto. The mahi mahi lacked flavor and was a bit bland. The risotto was pretty good though.
Dulce/Dessert
Diablo Choco Fondante: This right here is another version of a Chocolate Molten Lava Cake, just fancier. Rich dark chocolate cake filled with a molten dulce de leche center served with a side of dark chocolate chip espresso ice-cream and a few blueberries for garnish. The cake arrived hot. The chocolate cake paired with the espresso ice-cream and blueberries was ambrosial. A favorite!

Havana Blue was an outstanding experience and this is one place I would go back to in a heartbeat on my next visit to St. Thomas. My only issue here is I wished they served complimentary bread because I was really drunk off of just one mojito β Iβm lightweight. Additionally, the food here isnβt carb heavy so I was in need of carbs badly after I left the restaurant, just something to consider. Apart from that, I loved this place. The food here is out of this worldβ¦ almost every dish was perfection. Very highly recommended!

5. Pesce
Casual and classy Italian restaurant with the best tiramisu.
Complimentary Appetizers + Antipasti
Kale & Roasted Pepper Salad (top): Fresh, light salad lightly dressed with candied walnuts. Great crunch. Excellent, healthy option.
Amuse-bouche (bottom left): Ravioli Mascarpone Pesto β lightly fried and so delicious. I wish this was on their menu.
Bread & EVOO (bottom right): The bread wasnβt warm, it was just okay for me.
Made in House Fresh Pasta
Penne alla Vodka (half portion): Prepared with Italian sausage, white beans, Tuscan kale, in a rose, creamy sauce. Although this classic Italian dish was good, it wasnβt traditional and it lacked hints of vodka in the sauce. The kale and sausage was a nice touch, but I wasnβt fond of the beans. A very hearty dish. Note, this is a half portion and it was pretty filling.
Pesce/Carne
Chicken Parmesan (left): Spaghetti with marinara sauce topped with fried chicken. The chicken was cooked to perfection and hot, but unfortunately it was bland.
Sauteed Mahi Diavolo (right): Perfectly tender penne pasta in a spicy marinara sauce with roasted peppers. Delicious.
Coffee & Dessert
Coffee: Solid.
Tiramisu: One of the best tiramisus. Light, flavorful and airy. Not too sweet. Perfection!
RESTAURANT REVIEW: Pesce
COST: $$$
CUISINE: Italian
FAVORITES: Kale & Roasted Pepper Salad | TIramisu
VERDICT: 3.75 / 5
My regret at Pesce was ordering 3 dishes that were all prepared in a tomato based sauce, I wish our waiter had maybe warned us about this. The food here was quite heavy and the portions are quite large. Having said that, Pesce had the best tiramisu and kale & roasted pepper salad. Overall, good Italian, but perhaps not the most traditional.
