Spain is a mecca for red meat lovers, and so while in Madrid for 24 hours, my choices were extremely limited since I don’t eat red meat. The coffee and pastries were something else, however.
1. La Mallorquina (bakery, breakfast, coffee)
A wonderful breakfast spot visited by locals and tourists located in Puerta del Sol. Excellent pastries. Cafe con leche is a must!
LOCATION: Puerta del Sol, 8 (Puerta del Sol)
COST: $
CUISINE: Bakery, Breakfast, Coffee.
VERDICT: 5 / 5
La Mallorquina is the main reason for me to visit Madrid again. A wonderful bakery with a plethora of desserts to choose from at reasonable prices. This place was extremely busy, understandably so, with visitors from all over Europe, I heard Italian, French, and of course, English. Definitely check out La Mallorquina when visiting Madrid, at the very least for a cup of café con leche and Neopolitana Crema.
2. Museo Del Jamon
A must-do for ham lovers. Not too many options for vegetarians though. Cheap and delicious house wine (copa).
LOCATION: Carrera San Jeronimo, 1 (locations all over Spain)
COST: $$
CUISINE: Spanish
Not being a ham lover, I can’t fairly rate this place so for me it was just okay for me, nonetheless if you are a ham lover, you will probably love Museo del Jamon. The paella was very average since I don’t eat all types of seafood and I’m not accustomed to seeing seafood with their eyes and hair on. Having said that, I really enjoyed the ambience at Museo del Jamon. The restaurant is great for people watching and I was able to enjoy some good wine (Copa) and great company (my husband). Sometimes it isn’t about the food, sometimes it’s about the company, the atmosphere, and the friendly Spanish people that surround you.
