Referred to as the party capital of the Mediterranean, Mykonos is magnificent. Itβs been on my list forever, and I finally had a chance to visit. A labyrinth of narrow cobblestone streets, lined up whitewashed houses accented with blue shutters and pink Bougainvillea, the streets of Mykonos Town are truly a maze of chic boutiques, designer stores, Greek taverns, coffee shops, bars, and nightclubs. There is a wide age range for those visiting Mykonos, from teenagers to senior citizens and everyone in between. Mykonos is also quite popular amongst the gay community due to its wide acceptance and crazy nightlife, hence there is something for everyone on this highly versatile island.
Believe it or not, between Mykonos and Santorini, I personally felt the streets of Mykonos Town were far prettier than the streets of Santorini, but as a whole, Santorini is undoubtedly more breathtaking. I absolutely loved the shopping scene in Mykonos, for one it is more affordable than Santorini, and two, the clothing is trendier. Cost wise in terms of food, drinks in Mykonos will run you roughly 10 to 13 Euros, entrees at Taverns start at 8 Euros and up, however entrees at any upscale restaurant start at 15 Euros and higher.
As I sit back and reminisce about Mykonos, my most memorable memories are dinner by sunset at Karavaki Restaurant and drinks by sunset at Little Venice, the views were spectacular at both places. And so, if you ever have the chance to visit the Greek Islands, Mykonos is one gorgeous little island not to be missed.
To recap my 4 night/3 day Mykonos Island Getaway. Enjoy!
Flying Aegean Airlines, as much as I love the USA, can I just say how generous European airlines are in comparison to American airlines. Aegean Airlines has pretty and nice air hostesses who are kind and donβt forget to smile. On a mere 2 hour connecting flight, we were served a meal and tea in cute little cups.
At Athens Airport, my husband spotted McDonalds, and of course he had to have his fries and fried chicken. I let him have his fun since there was going to be no American influence on the islands, only gyros, souvlakis, and all things Greek.
Arrived at our hotel (Vencia Boutique Hotel) in Mykonos after a long 17 hour journey, and this is the stunning view we walked into. Suddenly, the long journey seemed worthwhile.
Kali Mera (good morning) Mykonos... very rocky and mountainous, thank God for Greek waters.
Ahhhh⦠finally seeing those narrow alleys with whitewashed homes.
Walking down to the Port area.
See how clear and shimmery the water is.
There are homeless cats all over Mykonos, I felt so bad, they are so cute.
First Greek meal, Chicken Souvlaki with fries and tzatziki sauce at Antoniniβs.
Shopping in Mykonos is SO fun⦠I loved the no name boutique stores where most items ranged between 10 Euros to 40 Euros, totally my kind of shopping.
Love the affect of the sun on the Aegean Sea.
Silhouette against the sunset.
And those white homes with a glimmer of the setting sun.
The intensity of colors as sunset occurs.
Dimitri is famous for his killer mojitos at the Vencia Boutique Hotel.
Mykonos Town at midnight, so alive, you can really feel the energy. White, blue, and pink colors epitomize the narrow alleys of Mykonos.
First real βDate Nightβ for an amazing sunset dinner at Karavaki... I was so excited. I wear this dress too often, need to change that.
I bought this pretty βeye ring.β According to the Greeks, the βeye ringβ keeps the evil eye folks away, so essentially it is a ring that is suppose to bring you good luck. Can't afford any bad luck. These pretty rings are sold all over Greece.
Clubbing at the famous Paradise Beach @ Cavo Paradiso.
The famous windmills, a major landmark in Mykonos.
Little Venice⦠oh how I dreamt of this moment.
Waves crashing, it was an extremely windy day. Note, there is no barricade, if you fall, youβre screwed.
Drinks at sunset by Little Venice, all the restaurants situated along the sea are cocktail bars, and thus make sure you grab a drink and enjoy the sunset. A must do!
And that's a wrap! Surely you must be tired of seeing sunset photos!
Most popular activities to do when in Mykonos Townβ¦
- enjoying a drink at sunset at Little Venice.
- enjoying a sunset dinner anywhere that offers splendid views.
- eat a Gyro at a shack/tavern, youβre in Greece!
- visiting a beach, they even have nude beaches.
- partying on Paradise Island⦠if that is your cup of tea.
- renting & driving an ATV around the island.
- take a day trip to Delos Island⦠historical.
- check with your hotel for other available tours.

Gorgeous photos & gorgeous YOU....Nisha, you are looking amazing :)! How do you manage to make even McDonalds look good?? Despite Greece being fairly close to London, I've never been! It's high on my list along with Italy!
honeywhatscooking says
Aww.. thanks K, you're sweet. Dude, I didn't make McDonalds look good, oh please, I felt like crap after eating even a little bit, I don't know, may be psychological. Ohhh.. next time you visit London, do a quick trip to Mykonos and Santorini, Italy is amazing too. I think they are the prettiest 2 countries that I've seen in Europe. π

Had to laugh at the McDonald's run...I think Ali hit it about 3-4 times in Paris earlier this month. I just had to ignore the whole situation!
I have an evil eye too, in the form of a bracelet. Not taking any chances. π
Great recap...I really love the cobblestone streets. It looks like a beautiful place!
honeywhatscooking says
Haha.. now I know they'll get along. I was like, why don't we eat at this cafe? And then I was like you know what, there are gonna be no McD and BKs on the islands, so let him enjoy. YOLO!
Omg, I didn't know that, I'll have to see it, yeah I'm superstitious about stuff like that.
It's gorgeous!
