L’Artusi is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in New York City, don’t leave here without indulging in the Spaghetti and Olive Oil Cake.
It was my first time back in New York City after I moved to California, and the one place I was dying to dine at was L’Artusi.
Good Italian food is so hard to find in Southern California, and so my craving for thin-slice pizza and pasta were at an all-time high.
Located in the West Village, L’Artusi serves up modern Italian food in a trendy setting.
Reservations are hard to get, so I highly recommend calling a month in advance.
Complimentary Items
Bread & Extra Virgin Olive Oil: the bread was just okay for me, nothing special.
Ginger Carrot Gazpacho: creamy, delicious, cold, and thick with a subtle ginger flavor. A favorite.
Verdura/Vegetable
Butter Lettuce Salad: layers of butter lettuce with a creamy Gorgonzola dressing in between each layer. The Gorgonzola cheese wasn’t too empowering which was nice. A generous portion and favorite.
Roasted Mushrooms: sauteed mushrooms topped with cheese and a little basil, and then topped with an egg. So delicious. A favorite.
Pasta
Spaghetti: One of the best dishes I’ve ever had and the most popular item at L’Artusi. Spaghetti tossed in butter, garlic, green chilies, Parmesan, and breadcrumbs. Slightly rich, extremely delectable. A favorite.
Broccoli Rabe Ravioli: Creamy, salty, melt in your mouth delicious. This dish isn’t on the menu, but it should be. Ask your server about this dish. So amazing. A favorite.
Orecchiette: Orecchiette shaped pasta tossed in olive oil with ground pork. This pasta dish was very good, but a little on the salty side.
Tagliatelle: Pasta in a white bolognese sauce. This dish had rave reviews on Yelp, and although it was good, I wasn’t wowed by it. It needed a little something extra, but I’m not sure what.
Pesce/Fish
Branzino Filet: the branzino was flavored with lemon and sat over a bed of olives. A light dish, however the branzino could have been flavored a little better.
Dolci/Dessert
Olive Oil Cake: Moist and delicious olive oil sponge cake. On the side was a tart flavored whipped cream which tasted a bit like yogurt. Incredible A favorite.

There are a plethora of incredible Italian restaurants in New York City, but L’Artusi is one of those that hardly ever goes wrong with the food. Should you decide to dine at L’Artusi, make sure you order the Spaghetti and their famous Olive Oil Cake, it would be shameful to leave here without trying both items. Once again, make reservations in advance since L’Artusi fills up quick.

We visited last month and absolutely loved the food! We had the spaghetti and the olive oil cake and both were absolutely delish! It’s hard getting a reservation though. 🙂
I’m so glad you agree. It’s absolutely incredible. Best Spaghetti and Olive Oil Cake I’ve ever had. 🙂
