Dos Caminos 3rd | New York City

Yes I know my blog is suppose to promote healthy cooking and eating, but every so often a girl's gotta have some fun, right?  So yes, I do go out, eat a super unhealthy meal and feel happy about it... I did just so tonight! We need to indulge once in a while, balance is key so tomorrow I'll be watching what I eat 🙂

Saturday night I headed to New York City with my girls.  We were suppose to go to Sofrito on 57th street, however the restaurant had a 2 hour wait so we headed to Dos Caminos on 3rd instead.  I've been to Dos Caminos many times before, some of which have been very special dates with my husband, however tonight it was just us girls!

    LOCATION

    825 Third Avenue At 50th
    New York, NY 10022
    212.336.5400

    (Midtown East)

    AMBIENCE
Dos Caminos 3rd has a very romantic atmosphere... hot pink on the inside, golden & pink lanterns hang from the ceiling, candles on the table, good music, dim lighting... it is perfect for a date, or even groups.

    RECOMMENDED TO

Couples, Bar Scene, Romantic Dining, Groups.

    CUISINE

    MENU - $$$
Dos Caminos Menu.  Dinner entrees range from $18 - $27.  Most people order their signature Guacamole which runs about $12.  Let's not forget about the drinks... the drinks here are so smooth, this will cost another $12 per drink.

    For 3 people:
    3 drinks + 3 entrees + 1 Guacamole = $135 (including 20% tip)

RECOMMENDED HEALTHY EATS... choices below are based on my knowledge of food and nutrition. There is no online nutritional information available for Dos Caminos. Please use your own discretion when making a decision.

    RECOMMENDED HEALTHY EATS
    APPETIZERS/STARTERS
    Guacamole
Mexican Chopped Salad (w/o crispy toritillas; w/dressing on side)
Ensalada De La Calle (w/dressing on side)

    MY REVIEW

My girlfriends and I ordered the famous Guacamole... this was insanely good, all you can taste is lime, cilantro, chunks of avocado, and a hint of jalapeno. THE BEST GUACAMOLE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!

For drinks, I had the El Camino Margarita which is usually very smooth, today it was slightly on the strong side... good, but not their best!  I was feeling a bit tipsy after consuming half the drink, but then I have low tolerance 🙂

My friend had a Prickly Pear Frozen Margarita... it sure looks pretty, but it was just okay.

For my entree, I ordered the Dos Enchiladas which comes with 2 sauces... mole poblano and tomatillo verde... I prefer the tomatillo verde (green sauce), anyday!  The chicken was very flavorful and tender.  My dish also came with a side of rice.

My friend ordered the Grilled Shrimp Quesadilla.  I thought this dish was a little too buttery for my liking and the shrimp was overcooked.  I personally did not care for this dish.

    VERDICT - 4 / 5

Overall, I think Dos Caminos has a lot to offer, but I was really let down with the drinks this time, my friend was let down with her overcooked shrimp.  Let's face it, we go to a restaurant looking for ambience, romance, good music, good crowd, good drinks (usually), good starters, good food... it isn't just one thing.  The food here is pretty good, the drinks are usually awesome, the guacamole is divine, the prices are a little high. For the most part, you will leave here happy. This is a place I keep going back to, when it doubt, we hop over to Dos Caminos! I'm really looking forward to trying Dos Caminos in Manhattan's upscale Meatpacking District.
