Chat n Chew | New York City (CLOSED)

My husband, girlfriends, and I went to Chat n Chew (CnC) on a Friday night.  My friends and I were just looking up restaurants in Union Square and came across Chat n Chew.  CnC is known for its Comfort Food, or American Soul Food.  It’s the kind of food your grandmother would make… greasy, buttery, and cooked with love.  I was a bit apprehensive on what to order because I wanted to eat healthy, but I also had to try their famous Macaroni and Cheese.  My friend, Jhiane, and I decided to split the Macaroni and Cheese and the Grilled Buffalo Shrimp appetizer.

I had such a great time Friday night, I am so blessed to have such a great husband and such amazing friends. We ended our night in New York City watching The Back-up Plan starring J.Lo. I really liked the movie, J.Lo looked gorgeous, and I had some good laughs. The perfect evening with dinner, movie, and great company!

LOCATION
10 E 16th St
New York, NY 10003
212.243.1616
(Union Square)

AMBIENCE
Chat n Chew has a rustic atmosphere which makes this a kid friendly place.  I also recommend this place for groups.

RECOMMENDED TO
Casual Dining, Kid Friendly, Groups.

CUISINE
American, Soul Food.

MENU – $$
Chat n Chew Menu.  The prices here are reasonable ranging from $10-$16.  The Macaroni and Cheese is amazing here, definitely try it, it also comes in a smaller size as an appetizer.  Cocktails are about $8 each.
Dinner for 4 people:
4 entrees + 3 sodas = $60 (including 18%-20% tip)  Now that’s a bargain for NYC!

MY REVIEW

My friend and I shared the Macaroni and Cheese… it was amazing… crunchy, cheesy, and creamy.  I think this was by the far the best Mac n Cheese I have ever had all for $11.  Don’t be a fool like I was, I should have eaten the whole thing by myself… if we can’t even indulge in delicious, crunchy, fatty, Grandmas homemade type Mac n Cheese, what are we living for?  How delicious does this look?

My friend and I also split the Grilled Buffalo Shrimp appetizer which was a huge dissapointment.  We were only served 4 pieces of grilled shrimp which in my opinion was a ripoff for $9, in addition, the buffalo sauce on the shrimp wasn’t what I had expected it to be.  On the contrary, this appetizer was pretty healthy without the blue cheese dressing.

We didn’t try any of the cocktails, three of us ordered diet cokes which was flat.  We asked our server for fresh diet cokes, but it turned out the diet coke machine wasn’t working…. okay then!

My husband ordered the Miss Patty’s Chicken Sammy, I had a couple bites and thought the sandwich was a bit dry for my liking.  However, this would be a healthy option without the fries.

VERDICT – 3 / 5
If you are going to consider going to CnC, the Mac n Cheese alone is reason enough to eat here.  It is amazing!  Chat n Chew is a fun hangout with friends, but the other entrees weren’t so great.  I don’t anticipate going back anytime soon because I believe there are much better places in Manhattan that would serve delicious soul food with a better atmosphere, and let’s not forget a diet coke machine that actually works. For now, I give this place a 3 until I try something better here. My friends and husband didn’t really care for this place either, however the Mac n Cheese ROCKS!

"Just when you think you know love, someone little "Just when you think you know love, someone little comes along to remind you just how big it really is." - Unknown How can I love someone this tiny so much? He tests my patience every day, but also brings me so much joy! For all you moms who said, “I have no time”, I finally get it. Now, I can’t even spare 5 minutes to shower. Yes, Nisha - Welcome to the Club! I can’t tell you how many people sent me this EXACT message 😂. Before I became a mom, the idea of changing diapers and spit-up grossed me out. Now, no biggie. I can’t even count on one hand how many times I’ve put my baby to sleep and I get so excited to have some “me time”. To my disappointment, he wakes up 1/2 hour later and I have to start the process all over again… is he burped, is he wet, is he hungry? The days are long! Despite the hardships of motherhood, one of the greatest joys has been watching and holding my baby while he sleeps, and knowing I provide comfort to him like no other. I’m sure he will get used to it and I’ll probably regret it later on, but for now, I am just soaking up these precious moments while he’s still little and innocent. ☺️ #motherhood #krishandnish #babyhoneywhatscooking #loveofmylife #mamasboy #3weekspostpartum
