    Agave | New York City

My friend, Jhiane, and I headed to Agave for dinner to celebrate her belated birthday.

We then headed to The Magnolia Bakery to pick up some cupcakes and celebrated with tea once we got home.  agave 022

    AMBIENCE
The ambience at Agave is very romantic.  There are candles lit all over this restaurant which makes it a great date spot.
I loved the pillows setup against the wall.

    MY REVIEW
I did the honors and started off with a Mango Mojito.  It was really good, and I was definitely able to taste the mint.
We ordered the Guacamole as an appetizer which came with blue corn chips.  The chips were really good, however I have to say the guacamole was a let down.  I believe it lacked the citrusy flavor, the spice from the jalapeno, and the freshness from the cilantro.  Seriously, it ain't that hard to made good guacamole!  As her entrée, Jhiane ordered the Blue Corn Enchiladas which were made with chipotle chicken breast, spinach and cheese.  This dish was good, and slightly on the sweeter side, however we weren't able to detect any spinach. I went for the Grilled Adobo Chicken Quesadillas hoping it would be made with shredded chicken, however to my dismay, there were chunks of grilled chicken.  Overall, this dish was pretty average.

    VERDICT: 3 / 5
Agave would make a great date spot given the romantic atmosphere and good drinks.  Unfortunately, the food is a letdown here.  For the same cost you can get amazing guacamole at Dos Caminos.  The entrees were pretty average as well and not what I would expect of a trendy spot in Manhattan.
If you do plan to check out this place, you can’t go wrong with the drinks, but you may want to research some of the entrees ahead of time prior to dining at Agave.
TELL ME: Have you been to Agave, if so, what did you think?

This was definitely a fun outing. It was a fun way to celebrate my birthday. I enjoyed my meal and loved the ambience at this restaurant. Thanks again JC
