Friday’s Favorite Things – 9.6.13

A very Happy Birthday to my bff, Jhiane…
Thank you for being such a great friend to me, my life is so much better with you in it.
Although I am not there with you, I’m thinking of you on your special day!
Can’t wait to celebrate your last birthday before you become a mama, officially… haha!
Have fun!  Love You!

1. GREECE
“You have your whole life to be old, but you’re young only once”… my friend, Manish, said that to me once and it stuck with me.
Greece has been on my travel list for 5 years now.  By now I’m sure my friends & family are sick and tired of hearing me whine about Greece.  Every year around May I’d start the Greece convo up with my husband and every year he’d say NO to visiting due to the unrest in Athens.  The “ignorance is bliss” side of me would always whine back saying, “but I don’t even wanna go to Athens, I hate history.  Let’s just do the islands.”  Yes, my husband likes to watch the news and I don’t.  This year, thankfully, Greece has been quiet and he finally gave me the green light to start planning a trip to the Greek Islands.  The “wanderlust” side of me seized an opportunity.
What I feel at this moment is indescribable, visiting Greece is a dream.come.true!  There isn’t a single place in this world I’ve been itching to see more than Santorini.  I love Europe, culture, coastal cities, beauty, food, warm people, and Greece has all those elements.  So for the next few days, I just wanna soak up Greece, revel in its beauty, eat souvlakis, drink up all that extra virgin olive oil + wine, dance in Mykonos, and enjoy the spectacular sunsets of Oia.  ~ pricelessgreece

2. Ricardo of Beverly Hills Escondido Upright 24” Spinner
And since I’m going to Greece, I gotta travel in style since my current luggage looks so old, cheap, and beat up.  I was specifically looking for medium-sized baggage that I could drag around easily since I’ll be island hopping.  Of course, Costco to the rescue!  My husband and I ordered a medium-sized bag, he went for black, I went for purple… such a gorgeous color.  The quality is great too and the price tag isn’t too shabby for such a pretty bag.  I just love Costco, amazing deals!  ~ $80 @ Costco (purple, red, black)

3. Trader Joe’s Tofu Edamame Nuggets
You seriously won’t miss the chicken if you try these Tofu Edamame Nuggets at TJ’s.  SO GOOD!  Don’t let the tofu and edamame fool you, this stuff is NOT exactly healthy, and the ingredient list is long, but it’s a good vegetarian option instead of chicken nuggets.  I serve my tofu nuggets with Trader Joe’s Gyoza Dipping Sauce which is really yummy too.  ~ $3 @ Trader Joe’s

A few mentions…
     – My next post will be sometime next week about Greece, I hope I’ll feel inspired to write.  I will!  🙂
     – If you’d like to follow my whereabouts in Greece, please follow me via social media… Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
     – Milestone!  Honey, What’s Cooking reached three MILLION hits yesterday (Sept 5)!  I wanna thank all of you for reading, commenting, and supporting my blog.  I will continue to bring you creative & good recipes, fun adventures, and random musings about my so-called life.  I’m so grateful to all of you.  From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!!!

TELL ME: Have you been to Mykonos/Paros/Santorini?  If so, are there any particular activities/places/restaurants I should do/visit?
And for the rest of you, what’s that one place in the world you are “itching to see,” that one place you just can’t stop dreaming about?  I’ll probably need another place to obsess over once I return from Greece!

OMG you jetsetter you :)! Have an awesome time in Greece and don't even think about your blog/computer while you are there…soak it up! Alongside the souvlakis, please ensure you get in your fair share of Greek yogurt- cliche but necessary!!

You will absolutely love Greece, we went there for our Honeymoon. We did Athens, Crete & Santorini. Santorini was my fav out of 3. To name a few things we loved: local wine tour, donkey ride, and i insisted i wanted to ride from bottom to top. Sailing, riding around towns in an ATV, and those gorgeous sunsets. Their boutique hotels and their services are impeccable. Hope you guys have an amazing time !! 🙂

Thanks Komal.. it's a great Honeymoon spot. I wanted to visit Crete so bad, but it was just too far and way down, so I didn't wanna be greedy and stuck with the cyclades. Okay, so I saw your message in time, but I didn't do the wine tour, I was scared of the donkey ride incase I fell off. We rode on an ATV, it was so much fun. Sunsets, yup. The boutique hotels have great service. Thanks so much for your tips!!!

Santorini is my most favorite place on earth. Make sure you cherish every moment you are there!

The Oia sunsets are spectacular. Make sure you ATV around the island. There is also this amazing italian restaurant in Fira that I highly recommend – Cacio E Pepe.

Go to Paradise beach in Mykonos if you want to party – Tropicana is bumping.

Thanks for your tips. We did do Paradise Beach, but Cavo, not Tropicana. Not sure if Tropicana had a party that night. Santorini is heaven… omg, don't think I have seen a place so beautiful. Did drive the ATV. I didn't go to Cacio E Pepe… wish I ate more.. the breakfast screwed us up.

Aaah Greece… I was there this May for my honeymoon. Surprisingly, I liked Mykonos better than Santorini. If you're in Santorini, please stay in Oia (don't let anything convince you otherwise!). Kiki's tavern in Mykonos is simply amazing. They are open only during the summer months and only for lunch as they don't have any electricity! Katerina's in Little Venice has great food. Also, we really enjoyed our half day trip to Delos island. Coming to Santorini, if you're into seafood, don't miss Sunset Taverna in Ammoudi Bay. Thalami in Oia is great too. Now I wish I could go back!

You know, I was pretty close on that too. I think Santorini is prettier, but Mykonos had more to offer and I loved the white everything. I stayed in Fira. 🙁 I actually liked Fira more, more to do. I missed Kiki's Tavern, next time. Missed Katerina's too. Missed the Sunset Taverna too.. it's so hard to find these places since it's all a maze. Thanks Su! 🙂

It was a while ago, but my friend and I did 3 of the Greek Islands back in '03. Santorini was my fave, no question. I also loved the donkey ride up the side of the hill, and my favorite activity was taking the ship over to the volcano, and jumping off the side of the boat into the natural hot springs. So much fun, and I think the most beautiful place I've been to in the world!

    Enjoy!

Santorini is the most beautiful place I've been to, I really can't imagine anything else topping it.
