Friday’s Favorite Things – 4.5.13

Blackened Salmon @ WhymSPRING is such a tease this season, it comes for a few hours and then disappears again.  Hopefully the weather will warm up here in the tri-state region soon enough.
My sister is in town for a week which equates to hanging with the family and eating a LOT, unfortunately since I lack self-control when it comes to food (sometimes), I ended up overeating broccoli, carrots and dip, and thus getting sick.  While I was sick, I kept telling myself to memorize this feeling and to not eat so much at one time.  What else?
My blogger buddy, Ameena (FancyThatFancyThis), was in town and we ended up meeting for a 2 hour lunch in New York.  It was so nice to catch up with her, and I speak for both of us when I say the Blackened Salmon we ate @ Whym was pretty yummy.  Thanks for a lovely talk, Ameena.

1. Linen Top @ H&M (purchased in natural white & black)
This past week I went on a bag hunt, but unfortunately the bag I wanted wasn’t available at the store, hence I opted for plan B ~ clothes shopping.  At H&M I picked up a couple linen tops with lace short sleeves.  I love lace and I love linen, which are both perfect for the spring & summer seasons.  The ivory top would pair so well over white skinny jeans with cute white flats and a short black leather jacket, or just some linen shorts as shown on the model below.  Just fyi… the tops look much prettier when worn.  ~ $18 @ H&M H&M Lace

2. Marisa Trouser Leg Pants in Linen @ LOFT (purchased in black)
Personally, I’m not a huge fan of LOFT clothing since I find their stuff to be a bit too sophisticated for my taste, however I LOVE their petite pants since they fit me perfectly and it’s such a pain to find petite summer pants.  I got lucky with these pants since EVERYTHING at LOFT was 40% off.  Crazy spring sales going on right now!  Originally I wanted these pants in flax, but since they were sold out I had to settle on black… sigh!  I own way too much black clothing.  ~ $70 (40% off) ~ $40 @ LOFT (black, flax)

3. MOVIES!
Staying home while it is still a little cold, I’ve had the chance to catch up on quite a few movies in the last couple weeks on HBO and OnDemand, here are my reviews on… Movies
This is 40 – The name says it all.  Hilarious movie that focuses on the struggles of marriage at 40.  Overall, it was pretty light hearted and very funny.  Love movies that relate to real life drama.
Life of Pi – Yes, it was nominated for an Oscar and I suppose I enjoyed this movie, but OMG it was so painfully slow.  Too deep for me and very intense movie.
The Twilight Saga – Breaking Dawn Part 1 – Thanks to my nieces, I have an idea about the Twilight Saga story.  Although this movie is about teenagers and vampires, I really enjoyed Breaking Dawn Part 1 which focuses around Bella and Edward’s wedding, honeymoon, and the issues around their unborn child.  The downside is Kristen Stewart’s poor acting skills, she totally acts like herself.  Is it just me or does everyone think that?
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – I was super psyched to see this movie which was pictured in India, however more than 70% into the film I turned off the movie, I just couldn’t take it anymore.  It was a little slow and boring for me, nonetheless my sister loved this movie, she’s also 11 years older than I, so I guess that explains it.  LOL!  I’m mean!

TELL ME: Have you seen any good movies lately?  Where do you recommend shopping for great spring/summer finds this season?

Oh woah that salmon looks great…and I'm sure the company was even better :)! I am sorta embarrassed to admit that I loved The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel…I thought it was such a feel-good movie but maybe I'm just a granny when it comes to movies ;)! I saw Armageddon yesterday for the first time which I thought was great…it could have been a bit shorter but enjoyable nonetheless! Have a great weekend with your sister, Nisha!

    Happy Friday, Nisha!
I just watched This is 40 last weekend and loved it too!! There was so much realness in the story, and the acting was pretty decent (esp for a chick flick). Have a good weekend!

Was thinking of catching on some new movies this week. Although I am not too sure about the twilight series. My nieces love them too- but I have yet to sit through the full movie. I just can't stand it! Maybe I am getting older, I know as a teenager I would have definitely seen it! You are right Kirsten cannot act at all, probably why I don't like watching the it!

    Have a great weekend!

@diaryofIndianMum – Agreed.. Kristen makes the Twilight Saga movies difficult to watch, but regardless I still liked it, I'm too much of a teenager I guess. 🙂

@Amelia – Yes, you should watch it, very different than the dreamy & fantasy Bollywood movies.. haha. Yes, Ameena definitely takes good pictures, as for me, my credit goes to the iPhone for the salmon photo. Have a great weekend.

@Khushboo – The salmon was amazing.. the company was better, you're right. OMG.. you liked that movie? I think the reason I didn't care for it is because everyone was older, it was hard to relate, and it just moved so slowly. Never seen Armageddon – Ben Affleck right? Enjoy the weekend K.

When I have family come over, I tend to overeat too – but not healthy stuff like you did hahaha

I love the look of the linen shirts!

@Bianca – healthy is what they put in front of me, but who overeats broccoli to the point the fall sick? I think I just needed a real meal and just ate whatever was in front of me. Oh well! 🙂

It was so great to see you too! Was thinking about our lunch today, can't believe it's been a whole week already.

One can never have too many pairs of black pants…I definitely have a whole bunch! Love them all.

I rarely see movies anymore, unless I watch them on the plane. "People Like Us" was really good! I recommend it.

    Have a great weekend Nisha!

Yay for sister time! And so jealous that you and Ameena got to meet up – well, happy for you but jealous that I haven't been able to…yet! It'll happen one day.

And I love that top. I really need to go shopping – it's been 3 months since I've seen the inside of a mall. It's about time!

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms who show up s Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms who show up selflessly every single day. Also, a happy mothers day to all of you who want to be moms. ❤️ This is the most challenging role of my life, but the journey is totally worth it. Krish has made me a stronger and happier person. He gives new meaning to my life. And lastly, my kid couldn’t give me one nice picture of us in Hawaii… there’s either someone in the back or he’s making a face or he just wants to get away. He just can’t sit still for a minute… and with that a Happy Mother’s Day to me! 🥰

Sanjiv and I enjoyed a romantic evening at House Without A Key in peace because Krish “thankfully” fell asleep (he was behind us I promise… swipe). It was so nice to converse with my better half over live music + cocktails, delicious food, and the BEST coconut cake (last pic). A memorable meal and evening! ❤️ #mylove

It’s my first time in Hawaii and I’m loving Waikiki… the beach, food, window shopping, and city life. I love being able to walk everywhere. It’s the perfect amount of action and relaxation for me. This is totally my kinda vacation 😎! Krish has been loving all the people-watching… something he doesn’t do much of back home. He’s been flexible and has pretty much adjusted to our schedule. Thank you 🙏🏼 guys for all the food recommendations (Duke’s Hula Pie) and tips on traveling with a toddler. I can’t thank you all enough. ❤️ #myworld
