Friday’s Favorite Things – 4.20.12

1. Pizza Making Class @ Brick NYC
This week my husband and I headed for our first pizza making class.  We both thought we’d actually learn how to make pizza from scratch, like knead the dough and roll it out, but unfortunately they just seated all attendees of the class as you would normally be seated in a restaurant and they gave each one of us raw dough, marinara sauce, and pizza toppings.  In addition to making our own pizza, we also enjoyed a wine tasting with 3 types of wine.  So lame I have to say and that’s because I bought the deal off Groupon – it’s such a SCAM!  The reason this class made Friday’s Faves is because the pizza was amazingly light, refreshing, and authentic.  My husband was like, “we paid them to make our own food, and they didn’t even teach us anything?”  LOL!  I couldn’t stop laughing when he said that.  Anyway, I’m just glad the pizza, our group, and the ambience was great.  ~ $35 (Groupon for 2) + $20 (Tax & Gratuity) = MAJOR RIP-OFF @ Brick, Tribeca – New York City. (you might as well just dine here, order 2 entrees, some wine, pay the same amount, and call it a night)

2. Homemade Almond Butter
My obsession this past week was homemade almond butter.  Personally, I’m not too fond of store bought almond butter, but I couldn’t keep my hands off of my homemade version.  I still have to make some tweaks and perfect the recipe before I share it with you.  I’ve been obsessively eating almond butter straight out of the jar, like 2 to 3 spoons a day, it’s just so addictive and totally curbs my sugar cravings.  I even added a scoop of it over my oatmeal recipe which I think may be the-best-oatmeal-you-will-ever-eat – I’ll be sharing this recipe next week.  Homemade Almond Butter ~ priceless

3. Chammak Challo by Akon
My beautiful niece, Jasmin, turned 16 a couple weeks ago, and this past week she celebrated her Sweet 16 with friends & family.  At her party this particular Indian song, Chammak Challo, was played about 3 times.  Regardless of race, every single 16 year old at the party was on the dance floor, and after a couple drinks I too was dancing with a bunch of 16 year olds.  Who.Cares?  Age is just a NUMBER!  In any case, this Indian song was sung by international pop star Akon in HINDI – so impressive.  Just watch and listen to this video and I bet you’ll be dancing in no time.  If you’re curious, “Chammak Challo” is slang for an attractive girl (think “hot chick”).  And I have to say, Kareena Kapoor in red + her seductive moves ~ PERFECTION

Chammak Challo by Akon

Here is the Making of the Chammak Challo Song – I was very impressed watching Akon’s attempts to sing the song in Hindi – he has the accent down!

Haha loving your favorites this week! Chammak Challo was such a hit here in November, I still can't get enough of it…always puts me in a party mood! Also I need to try making my own almond butter- I love almonds but hated the nut butter variety which I bought from the store!

This week I am loving red wine risotto! I ordered some at a restaurant on Wednesday night and it was fantastic- it had mushrooms stirred in which took the dish to whole new level!

    Have a great weekend, Nisha!

Glad that you enjoyed the class, even if it wasn't really a 'class'! I love making pizza dough, maybe you could give it a go at home? Looks like the pizza turned out pretty yummy though 🙂

What's this almond butter you speak of? What does it taste like? Do you have it on toast like peanut butter? More more moreeeee LOL

    My favourite things this week:
    – managed to scrape out some time and do a hair mask. Huge deal.
    – ate a super cheap and especially delicious Easter bunny today

Thanks for your comments Honey 🙂

I would have been so annoyed by the pizza class! I'm glad the pizza was good at least, but your husband is totally right…you basically paid to make your own dinner. 🙁 (This is why I avoid Korean BBQ places!)

    Have a great weekend Nisha!

@Khushboo – red wine risotto sounds fantastic. Wow, that's a real classy meal. I'll add it to my list of things to try out.
I know, Chammak Challo was released a while ago, I love that song.
Almond Butter tastes 10 times better than store bought. Store bought Peanut Butter still tastes good, but AB, I don't know about that.

@Simone – Almond Butter is just like peanut butter, just made with almonds instead of peanuts. It consists of just raw almonds, and then you can dress it up with sugar, honey, maple syrup, vanilla, cinnamon, the possibilities are endless. Yes, you can spread it over toast, or top it over oatmeal, or just eat it straight up as I do. 🙂 Recipe coming soon!!!

@Ameena – I've never tried Korean BBQ, is that how it is? Yeah, we totally paid to make our own dinner, so lame. I'm getting sick of Groupon and Living social deals, they are really scams. Have a great weekend, if it makes you feel any better, it's raining here all weekend. :-)))

I am also laughing at what your husband said about paying them to make your food. I agree, it is a complete rip off and then you feel a bit cheated.
This home made almond butter sounds divine. I need to make a big batch of it because I do have big time carb and sugar cravings. This would be perfect.
I love the chamak challo song too. Love to hear it while I am on the elliptical.

I made a delicious marinade for the paneer and sauteed it along with the veggies. Assemble your whole wheat quesadillas and cook until the cheese has melted. The best part about this dish is my "special taco sauce" which complements these quesadillas perfectly.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms who show up s Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms who show up selflessly every single day. Also, a happy mothers day to all of you who want to be moms. ❤️ This is the most challenging role of my life, but the journey is totally worth it. Krish has made me a stronger and happier person. He gives new meaning to my life. And lastly, my kid couldn’t give me one nice picture of us in Hawaii… there’s either someone in the back or he’s making a face or he just wants to get away. He just can’t sit still for a minute… and with that a Happy Mother’s Day to me! 🥰

Sanjiv and I enjoyed a romantic evening at House Without A Key in peace because Krish “thankfully” fell asleep (he was behind us I promise… swipe). It was so nice to converse with my better half over live music + cocktails, delicious food, and the BEST coconut cake (last pic). A memorable meal and evening! ❤️ #mylove

It’s my first time in Hawaii and I’m loving Waikiki… the beach, food, window shopping, and city life. I love being able to walk everywhere. It’s the perfect amount of action and relaxation for me. This is totally my kinda vacation 😎! Krish has been loving all the people-watching… something he doesn’t do much of back home. He’s been flexible and has pretty much adjusted to our schedule. Thank you 🙏🏼 guys for all the food recommendations (Duke’s Hula Pie) and tips on traveling with a toddler. I can’t thank you all enough. ❤️ #myworld
