Bakery Review: Thomas Sweets Ice Cream & Chocolate (New Brunswick, NJ)

First things first, a good friend of mine found a job as a Junior Project Manager with a top consulting firm after almost 2 years.  I’ve been there so I totally get how it feels not having a job, but she landed a great position and I am so proud of her.  This economy really sucks, I hope it picks up soon.

Now about me… I’m so happy today because I got my hair highlighted and straightened.  I have subtle streaks of a dark honey color, I love it!  I have been going to this particular salon for the past 11 years and every time I walk in with my hair looking wild, curly, and unmanageable; Every time I walk out with my hair looking straight and tame… I felt like a million bucks today. It’s such a pain to straighten my hair so it is always nice when someone else does it for me.  In my case, a really HOT, beautiful, chiseled, bronzy man wearing a wife-beater, who happens to me my hair stylist, and gay.  Oh relax, I’m married and he’s gay, I can at least talk about it.  Aren’t the best looking men usually gay?

And Now a funny story.  While my hair stylist was highlighting my hair, this married man comes up to him out of nowhere telling him that he’s gorgeous, not just once, many, many times.  He even mentioned he has a wife and two kids, and yet he kept complimenting my hair stylist on his amazing looks.  I just found the whole situation to be a litlte funny, and a little strange.

After the salon I headed to Thomas Sweets for ice cream.  Ice cream is not really my cup of tea, but Thomas Sweets is not just any ice cream, according to them, it is a “soft frozen concoction which simply must be tried to fully appreciate.”  Trust me, it was hard saying yes to ice cream after hanging around my hair stylist who is in amazing shape, but I had to block him out and indulge.

LOCATION

55 Easton Ave
New Brunswick, NJ 08901

AMBIENCE
Thomas Sweets is a cute little cafe with such vibrant and colorful paintings.  The art work speaks to you.  This is a great place for a date after a nice dinner in the area.  You will probably run into quite a few college students, but that is expected since you are close to the College Ave Campus at Rutgers University.

RECOMMENDED TO
Everyone.

CUISINE
Ice Cream.

MENU – $
Thomas Sweets Menu.  Honestly, I haven’t tried anything on the menu, except the Blend-Ins.  They are amazing!  A blend-in is basically ice-cream mixed with 1 to 3 toppings of your choice.
For 1 person:
Double Blend-In = $4.50

RECOMMENDED HEALTHY EATS… there is nothing healthy on the menu, however if you are watching your fat intake, I have a few items I recommend.  Please use your own discretion when making a decision.

HEALTHY EATS
Frozen Yogurt
Espresso
Hot Cocoa
Hot Coffee
Hot Tea
Cappuccino w/Skim Milk
Latte w/Skim Milk

MY REVIEW
Thomas Sweets is awesome!  My entire day was planned strategically… I left work early, went to the salon, followed by a treat at Thomas Sweets.

Today I had a Blend-In with Coffee flavored ice cream mixed with walnuts and banana.  OMG… it was blissful.  The ice cream was soft and tasted fresh, not too sweet and not too heavy.  This is what I love about Thomas Sweets, everything is fresh and doesn’t make you feel heavy afterwards.

I wasn’t such a pig though, I ate half my ice cream and took the remaining home for my husband… he loved it!

VERDICT – 5 / 5
I love Thomas Sweets.  In my opinion, it is the best ice cream I have ever had.  Maybe I am biased because I spent 4 years of my college life at Rutgers-New Brunswick, the town makes me nostalgic.  Whenever I swing by New Brunswick, I stop over and pick up a blend-in.  For Thomas Sweets, I can skip a meal, but I can’t miss out on their delectable ice cream treat.  There are 2 locations in Princeton, NJ, as well as 1 location in Washington D.C.

I’M ALWAYS ROOTING FOR THE RUTGERS FOOTBALL TEAM!!!!!
