    Bakery Review: Sweet (Hoboken, NJ)

Couple weeks ago, my husband, girlfriends, and I attended the famous Hoboken Spring Arts & Music Festival.  I chose not to eat the entire morning because I was looking forward to the food at the festival.  What's special about the food here is the restaurants participate as well and sell their food at a reduced rate.  For example, Karma Kafe, which has great Indian food in my opinion, were selling their Chicken Biryani at $7.

So I came across this cupcake stall selling these cute mini-cupcakes.  I am a sucker for cupcakes, but not mini-cupcakes.  I found out the bakery was around the corner and bought a couple REAL SIZE cupcakes.

Today, my best friend, Jhiane, and her sister, Wildine, stopped by my place.  They bought me a Sweet cupcake... it's nice to have friends that care and who show it with a cupcake 🙂

    LOCATION
    343 garden street

    AMBIENCE
The bakery is a cute shack, it is clean, isn't packed, there is no waiting, unlike some places in NYC.  I loved the decor with the branches and leaves on the wall.

    MENU - $
Sweet Cupcake Menu.  The regular size cupcakes are priced at $2.75 each.  Although I would prefer slightly cheaper cupcakes considering their size, I tend to focus more on the quality of the cupcake, than the quantity.  My friend, Jhiane, would totally disagree with me; she primarily focuses on the quantity.
    For 2 people (my hubby & I)
    2 regular size cupcakes = $5.50

    MY REVIEW
I went ahead and asked the lady at the counter, what is your best seller?  She responded, "Red velvet."  Red Velvet happens to be one of my favorite cupcakes so I went ahead and purchased 1 for myself.  It was DELISH, perfectly sweet, soft, moist, and good texture!  I didn't find the cupcake or the Cream Cheese Frosting to be too sweet.  I can't stand it when the frosting is way too sweet, it gives me an ache.

I bought 1 Banana Cupcake with Cream Cheese Frosting for my husband; he loved it.  I had a bite of his cupcake, it was good, but it wasn't instant love.  I wanted to have another bite to confirm my opinion, but I didn't want to be greedy either.  Poor guy, he's always hearing about my food criticism.

Here is a picture of the Red Velvet and Banana cupcakes.  Both come with Cream Cheese Frosting.

Today Jhiane bought me a Chocolate Cupcake with Peanut Butter Frosting.  Mmmmm... it was delicious.  The chocolate cupcake wasn't too sweet; it almost tasted like dark chocolate to me.  The cupcake was perfectly balanced with the peanut butter frosting.  I loved it.  As you can see, Jhiane placed the cupcakes in the backseat of the car, so some of the frosting came off 🙁  But, thanks Mama!

    VERDICT - 4.5 / 5
Sweet is by far one of the best bakeries in NJ.  I'm so craving another cupcake at this point.  Truth be told, I have a really bad sweet tooth and am extremely picky about cake.  I know a good cake when I taste it.  If it isn't instant love with the first bite, we'll never work out.  Sweet was more than I expected.  I was really happy with the cupcakes, they had just the right amount of sweetness, the frosting was not too overpowering, the texture was soft, and the cupcakes were moist.  For now I give this bakery 4.5 stars and look forward to more cupcakes.  This place is a keeper, definitely going back for more.  It's nice NOT having to cross the Hudson each time I crave a yummy cupcake... about time Jersey stepped it up!
