First off, I just want to wish my pretty niece, Salena, a very Happy Birthday! I saw her a little while ago, she’s in New York City with her Mom and sisters to see her first Broadway show, Phantom of the Opera! The music is an emotional masterpiece, the tunes still ring in my ears. I saw Phantom of the Opera five years ago and enjoyed it, however the music was at a whole another level, it was simply powerful and moving. Yeah, you can say that I am a music lover and have a genuine appreciation for operas, in addition to music from the baroque & classical eras.
Anyway, my sister and nieces will swing by my place before they head home. They are picking me up a Magnolia cupcake… yippee! Another cupcake you must be thinking? Don’t I deserve it with all the pain I’ve had to endure? I have to say today was definitely a better day for my back pain. This morning was a little tough, but as the day progressed the pain subsided. That Ibuprofen really kicked in, however it made me a little drowsy and I ended up taking a nap early evening.
About 4 weeks ago, my sister, nieces, husband, & I went to Na Thai for dinner, we ended up going to Caffe Dante for dessert. This is a classic Italian bakery and one of my favorite bakeries in New York City. I’ve been meaning to post a review on this bakery for a while, I just never got around to doing it until now. The timing could not have been better since Salena was present when we hung out at this awesome cafe.
Tell Me: What’s your favorite Broadway show? Any recommendations?

Caffe Dante is split into 2 rooms… the room on the right is where all the pastries and gelato are. This room is bright. Notice the celebrity pictures on the wall, including the lovely, Sarah Jessica Parker. I got so excited when I saw SJP’s picture… I was happy we both ate at the same cafe… I LOVE HER!
Just look at the variety of Gelato.
The room on the left was where they make the coffees, cappuccinos, and espressos. This room was darker and romantic.
There are black and white pictures on the wall giving it a very Euro-nostalgic (I made this word up) look and feel. Sitting in this room literally took me back to Rome and Naples. I think this particular room is an ideal place for a date spot, it is romantic.

MENU – $-$$
Caffe Dante menu. Caffe Dante is a bit overpriced for a bakery. Expect to spend about $3.50 to $5 for a cappuccino… I can’t exactly recall 4 weeks later. The more exotic the drink, the more you will end up paying. They have hot alcoholic beverages here too, I was tempted to get one, however after a heavy meal at dinner I ended up skipping the alcohol. The desserts here ranged between $5 and $7, approximately.

RECOMMENDED HEALTHY EATS… choices below are based on my knowledge of food and nutrition. Since there is NO online menu, I can’t advise you on what to order. In general, choose desserts that do not contain too much butter or oil. Specifically at an Italian Bakery, opt for a biscotti or Italian cookies. For hot beverages, opt for tea or drinks made with nonfat milk. In addition, avoid drinks that contain syrup, such as, Vanilla Latte… there will most likely be High Fructose Corn Syrup in the ‘vanilla syrup.’ There is no online nutritional information available for Caffe Dante. Please use your own discretion when making a decision.

For my hot beverage, I had a Darjeeling Tea which is Indian tea, one that is light and floral. There are very few places that carry Darjeeling tea so I was super excited when I saw it on the menu. Definitely try it if you haven’t already. The tea is served in a French press and is enough to share between 2 people… my niece, Salena, had the other cup. I just saved you about $4 by telling you that. 🙂
I LOVED MY TEA, it was so nice and hot! Very few places serve you really HOT water! I was in heaven. 🙂
My hubby and sister each got a Cappuccino. It was good, but not for me. Just like I, my husband found the cappuccino to be a bit strong for our liking. On the other hand, my sister raved about how good it was. Believe it, she loves her coffee!
The kids ordered some kind of a Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Mousse filling. Of course, they loved it since they are all chocolate lovers. I found the cake to be a bit too chocolatey… I love chocolate, however by no means would I consider myself to be a chocolate lover.
My nieces, Sonja and Sar, really wanted gelato. They ended up getting a Hazelnut Gelato which was really good. I’ve already had the most heavenly gelato in Italy, so in comparison, the gelato at Caffe Dante was very good, but didn’t quite meet my expectations. I know this isn’t exactly a fair comparison, but whatever. Don’t cha love the presentation here?
VERDICT – 4 / 5
I really liked Caffe Dante, it is a charming bakery and one of my favorite Italian cafes. They have a good collection of Italian pastries and drinks. I love the Italian look and feel of this bakery which I’m sure draws lots of European tourists. The prices are on the higher end for a bakery, however it is worth every penny. I love that there is outdoor seating which is great for people watching, hey, it’s New York baby, you never know who is gonna pass by.
The downfall here is a couple desserts I wanted were sold out. Although they claim to have about 15-20 desserts on the menu, they don’t have the dessert itself to show for it which realllllllly sucks. Despite a couple flaws, this place is a keeper with its great ambience, atmosphere, HOT TEA, variety of drinks, and good & light desserts. Overall, Caffe Dante is a romantic and cozy cafe which makes a great ending to any meal.
