It’s been a while since I did one of these Trader Joe’s posts on a Friday. I can never seem to go to Trader Joe’s without exceeding my budget. There is always something new that I wanna try, and as a result I end up buying more than I need and then carrying those heavy grocery bags home. Needless to say, I do have a few favorites to report.
1. Trader Joe’s Hot & Sweet Pepper Jelly
I absolutely love this combination of a sweet, spicy and tangy jelly. It tastes great with cheese, cheese & crackers, or even in a grilled cheese sandwich. Oh, it also goes really well with cream cheese and crackers. The downside is there is a good amount of sugar here, having said that, a little goes a long way. Love.
2. Trader Joe’s Thai Lime & Chili Almonds
These almonds are tangy and limey, and there is a prominent flavor of lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves. I really liked these nuts and the nutritional value isn’t bad… low saturated fat, low sodium, low sugar, good amounts of protein and fiber, and no cholesterol. Sounds good to me! Love.
3. Trader Giotto’s Fresh Bruschetta Sauce
My first impression of this sauce was it is extremely oily which is really unnecessary for bruschetta. The flavor is delicious though… roma tomatoes with olive oil, basil and garlic, you really can’t go wrong here. Although the Bruschetta Sauce is really good, due to the sodium and fat amount in just 2 tbsp, I won’t be purchasing this again because I can easily make this at home. Good, but too oily.
4. Trader Joe’s White Bean & Basil Hummus
After trying the Original Tuscan White Bean Hummus which was delicious, I was super excited about trying the White Bean Basil hummus, but to my dismay the basil flavor takes over. It seems to me Trader Joe’s may have discontinued the Tuscan White Bean Hummus because I can’t seem to ever find it. Additionally, I’m not too thrilled about the nutritional value and ingredient list of the White Bean Basil Hummus which contains soy, phosphoric acid and seems highly processed for something that is so simple to make. Here is a super easy recipe on how to make hummus from scratch. Skip.
5. Picky Bars
Picky Bars are now sold at Trader Joe’s and they sort of remind me of Larabars. So I like the fact that these are gluten free, vegan, GMO free, and that you can pronounce all the ingredients that are in here, but the taste just didn’t cut it for me. Picky Bars are good snacks before a workout, but I’d rather eat something I like and just as natural, such as a banana with peanut butter. Skip.
What have you been liking/disliking lately at Trader Joe’s?
