The weather in New York City is so beautiful, 70s mostly and hitting the low 80s during the day. I hope it stays this way for a while. Nice weather makes me wanna cook more, it also makes me wanna dine out, but it makes me wanna cook more and try new recipes. For this week’s Trader Joe’s favorites, I’m most excited to share with you their Organic Popcorn with Olive Oil. Genius! They taste great with a slight hint of olive oil, but the calories and fat ain’t too shabby either.
And to all you moms out there, have a Happy Mother’s Day weekend!
1. Trader Joe’s Organic Popcorn with Olive Oil
My friend, Shanam “the foodie,” introduced me to this popcorn. Whenever I visit her she pulls out all these yummy Trader Joe’s snacks for me to try. Not only does this popcorn taste good, but 2 cups amounts to 130 calories and 6 grams of fat, not bad right? And just $2. So lately this is my junk food of choice when I’m craving something salty. If I’m not indulging in something sweet with my nightly cup of tea, I’m having something salty. Moderation is key. Love.
2. Trader Joe’s Crunchy Salted Peanut Butter with Flax & Chia Seeds
An even healthier peanut butter, if that’s possible, with flax and chia seeds. At 7 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per serving, this peanut butter is probably better for you than most others out there, but the flavor is just okay for me. Probably needs to be just a little bit sweeter and it’s just way too crunchy for me, I guess they weren’t exaggerating when they describe this as “Crunchy Salted.” Haha! This is definitely for all you health fanatics. Okay.
3. Trader Joe’s Chia Seeds
I love adding Chia Seeds to my oatmeal, and lately I’ve been making overnight oats, so the end result is like an Oatmeal Chia Pudding. I was adding 1 tbsp of chia seeds to my oatmeal, but due to the fat content I now only add 1 tsp to my oatmeal. A great source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Fiber, I only wish TJs made an organic version of Chia Seeds. Lovely packaging. Love.
4. Trader Joe’s Battered Halibut Gluten-Free
Ever since I made these Fish Tacos that I recently blogged about, I’m hooked on these. The Battered Halibut Gluten-Free pieces taste amazing for something out of a box. 2 pieces (1 serving) yields 170 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 9 grams of protein, not terrible, but at the end of the day they are still fried, high in sodium, and processed. Gonna buy and enjoy these sparingly. Love.
5. Trader Joe’s Corn & Wheat Tortillas
And for the tacos I mentioned above, I used these Corn & Wheat Tortillas which are super tasty. They taste more along the lines of corn and less like wheat which I prefer anyway. So far I’ve used these for my fish tacos, egg tacos for breakfast, and as roti when eating Indian food for dinner. 1 tortilla has 90 calories, 1 gram of fat, 1 gram of fiber and 4 grams of protein. Love.
