Friday’s Favorite Things - 1.10.14

1. HP Envy Touchsmart 14T Ultrabook
I was in desperate need of a new laptop since blogging with lots of images tends to slow down my PC.  Many folks suggested a MAC, and I did test it out for about 2 weeks, however since a MAC isn't compatible with some Windows apps and I am a PC girl at heart, I had to go with a PC.  What I really wanted was a MAC look alike, and I found this HP Envy at Costco.  A beautiful machine that looks just like the MAC, and it’s powerful and fast too, not to mention, touchscreen.
Although I was iffy about purchasing the Windows 8 Operating System due to its bad reviews, in the upgraded Windows 8.1 you can customize the settings so it looks just like WIndows 7.  The features are pretty cool.  I absolutely LOVE my new machine and it was my Christmas gift from me to me!  Yeah, gotta spoil myself once in a while.  Here are the specs I purchased - Windows 8.1 OS, Intel i5, 500 GB Hard Drive, 8 GB Memory, 14” screen.  Build a custom laptop at Costco or Amazon

2. Orgins A Perfect World SPF 25
When winter arrives, my skin gets crazy dry.  This season I’m trying Origins Perfect World moisturizer with SPF 25.  This thick antioxidant moisturizer is formulated without parabens, mineral oil, and animal ingredients, additionally it contains White Tea, UVA/UVB, and delays the appearance of premature aging.  So far, my skin has been soft, supple, and smooth, plus no breakouts since I am prone to an occasional pimple here and there.  Perfect for the winter and has a citrusy smell.  ~ $41 @ Sephora

3. Trader Joe’s Reduced Guilt Chunky Guacamole
Love guac?  Try this… guacamole mixed up with Greek yogurt, so good, and you don’t have to worry about the avocado browning.  TJ’s version tastes like the real thing with less fat since it is made with Greek yogurt.  So creamy and delicious.  So far, I’ve paired my reduced guilt guac with TJ’s Rosemary Italian Style Crackers and Tortilla Chips.  ~ $3.50 @ Trader Joe’sphoto (2)

TELL ME: Are you a MAC or PC lover?  If you are a blogger, what software do you use for blogging?  Have you tried Greek Yogurt Guacamole?

  1. So I finally made a trip to our TJs last weekend! I'm going to have to look through your posts to find your favorite purchases! I bought cookie butter and it is...heaven. :) I smell trouble ahead!

And good for your for treating yourself. That's something I have a hard time doing...unless it's clothes or shoes. Then I'm ok!

    1. I've been wanting to do a post on TJs, what's good at TJ's. I will soon. The cookie butter is amazing.. I haven't tried the chocolate cookie butter version. Oh.. I have no trouble treating myself.. I usually do it with clothes/bags/shoes, but I don't do the manicures and pedicures and spa stuff. So I guess it all balances out. :-)

  2. I have a Mac although I dont use it to its full potential. I am also a little biased with touch screen products if its not Apple :( I dont use anything specific for blogging besides a blogger and edit pictures using Picassa.. Well you can tell how challenged I am when it comes to technology. I add yogurt to guacamole if I have to feed a crowd and do not have enough avocado with me. here is a link to the version I make at home -http://www.foodpleasureandhealth.com/2012/09/holy-guacamole-how-to-get-more.html

    1. I used to use Blogger for blogging, it was painfully slow because I use so many images, but yeah if you are using Blogger, than MAC is ideal. I have to make Greek Yogurt Guac at home, so need to do that this spring, for now I'm loving TJs. I'll check out your link. Thanks for sharing Dixya!

  3. PC all the way...I have a Lenovo and I like it. But I did like the version that was stolen from Heathrow last summer so much better. This one has some glitches which is frustrating.

I love Origins products, I have a scrub which is fantastic. I will look into this sunscreen. My skin is really dry from all the indoor heat!

    Have a great weekend Nisha!

    1. Yes, you mentioned the Lenovo to me, I wanted to get a silver one, but I was unable to find one that I liked. I'll look into their scrub, this is my first time trying Origins and I really like it. I just love that it's so much more natural than other brands. My skin is dry too cause of the heat, a humidifier really works.

    1. My sister has a Macbook which is why I was so obsessed with it's look and feel, and I wanted a MAC so bad. It just wasn't compatible enough for me, and then I wanted a look alike.. I'm so shallow. This is my first time trying an Origins product, so far so good!

  5. I recently got a laptop simply so I could take it to the basement (where I shoot photos) and start shooting tethered. Yours looks terrific! Congrats.

    1. Awww.. that's so cute. I actually just shoot photos in my small apt, I'm so lucky that I am able to get somewhat decent pics. I could only imagine with a lot more space and light. Thanks!

    1. Thanks Cailee, I tried getting into MACs, but the apps became a real problem for me. The TJ guac is amazing, I'll make sure I grab the Spinach Greek Yogurt Dip next time, thanks for the tip.

    1. That's what I've heard, and that's why I tried out the MAC. People who converted never looked back, unfortunately I needed a couple apps that were not MAC compatible. Really sucks! Oh well.. someday! :-)

  9. Gifts to yourself are the best kind :) What an awesome computer! My computer is on it's last legs and I'm having the same debate about switching to a MAC (my husband exclusively uses them). I dunno what to do! Mmmm, I need that guac and those crackers...

    1. Lol.. yes they are, especially Christmas time. I loveeeeeeeee my computer. I thought about switching, it's just way too many shortcut changes that I am used to, and then app changes. I would basically need a PC Operating System installed on my MAC and would need Parallels. Just too much work. The guac is a winner!
