Friday’s Favorite Things - 5.31.13

It’s Miami Time!  I’m excited!
I’m excited to getaway and spend time with my husband and friends.
I’m excited about indulging in Latin food… tostones, frijoles, arroz con pollo, and oh especially café con leche, no other city makes it like Miami.
I’m excited about all the shopping on Lincoln Road even though we have the same exact stores in NYC.
I’m super excited about meeting my blogger friend, Parita (myInnerShakti), I hope we can visit Parita’s favorite gelato place.
But with all this excitement, there is usually a downfall, pun intended.  I'm tense about all the rain in Miami, I hope this doesn't totally ruin my vaca.  But most of all, I’m tense about my frizzy, curly hair that I straighten with so much love going crazy on me, so crazy that no Moroccan Oil treatment will help save the day…
rain + high humidity + near the beach + east coast = SERIOUS BAD HAIR!
Oh well, but I’m still optimistic that the sun will shine down on me.

1. Crabtree & Evelyn La Source Refreshing Body Mist
Now that we’re seeing summery days in the tri-state, I purchased a bottle of Crabtree & Evelyn’s body mist.  The smell is fresh, soft, and beachy.  This stuff comes in very handy after a long walk in the summer heat.  Eeeek!  And it’ll most definitely come in handy in the South Beach humidity.  ~ $20 @ Crabtree & Evelyn or Amazon

2. Coconut Chips @ Trader Joe's
I first learned about Coconut Chips on Kiran's Instagram.  The coconut chips at Trader Joe's are so yummy, and 1/2 a bag is 10 grams of fat, it’s not so bad.  I like to make a nut assortment for myself to snack on at work, my mix consists of walnuts, almonds, pecans, raisins, dark chocolate chips and coconut chips.  The coconut chips add a little sweetness to every bite.  You can even add them to cookies, oatmeal, toast+peanut butter, fruit, and more.  Delicious!  ~ $2 @ Trader Joe’s bread poha 093

3. Ina & Jeffrey Short Clip

Do you guys watch The Barefoot Contessa on FoodNetwork?  Well, for those of you who do, you must know about the talented Ina Garten who constantly dotes on her husband Jeffrey.  These two are just so loving, funny, and cute.  Whenever I’m hanging with my friend, Marian, we watch Ina together, and if Jeffrey is on the episode, we can’t stop laughing simply because of the way she pampers him and showers him with so much food, love, and attention.  These two are ALWAYS making out.
After 30+ years, they both have got that “in love” feeling.  He works and he’s away half the week, she entertains and cooks while he’s away.  Perhaps that’s the secret to a perfect marriage, having separate lives and missing one another, and then getting together on the weekend and simply loving one another, not to mention the amazing dishes she surprises him with.  Hey, just sayin.  Okay, so go ahead and watch this clip I recorded while Ina and Jeffrey are in the romantic city of Paris.  Her comments and giggle always get me.  Hilarious, I know Marian is laughing with me!!!  LOL!  ~ priceless humor, INA & Jeffrey forever!

    1. Thanks Dixya - I did have a really good time in Miami. Yeah, I just blow dried it often and added Moroccan Oil to tame the frizz... tied it up when I went out and then let it loose once I got to my destination. Worked for the most part. :) Those TJ Chips are yummy!

    1. Ina and Geoffrey... lol, isn't it Jeffrey? I love her too, her and Giada are my faves, but Ina's episodes make me laugh, she is just so predictable. Her home is gorgeous, Giada's is too.. I prefer Giada's since she has an ocean view and all white kitchen, so summery! Thanks.. Miami was a lot of fun, and so was meeting up with Parita.

  9. The secret to a happy marriage? Not living together full time. I'm not even kidding about that one. My husband travels a lot and we are both happier because of it. Even Maya is happier. :)

Don't fret about the hair...just go with a braid, which is what I do when I'm on vacation in a humid place. Enjoy your trip!

    1. Haha.. I think there is truth in that.. I think some space is healthy in a marriage, you can't always be in each other's face all the time. My husband travels very little, but sometimes I'll just do an all girls trip. I have to try a braid, not sure how it would look on me, I'm not tall and lean like you. :-)

  10. Oh, girl. No hair cure here in Texas, you just gotta go with it! I get fairly good results by smoothing through some Argan oil, but other than that, no one cares. We're all just trying to get through the heat without melting! Have a GREAT time!

    1. SO funny.. while in Miami, a friend in our group mentioned using Argan Oil, I use Moroccan and she said it may weigh down my hair. SO many choices! Texas must be hot this time of year, NYC was boiling this past weekend, thank God I wasn't here.
