It’s been a bitterly cold week here in the Tri-State. O.M.G! Temperatures hit as low as 11 degrees Fahrenheit which sounds bad, but not in comparison to –15 degrees Fahrenheit in Minneapolis. That whole Midwest region weather thing is just something else. Anyway, enough of me whining, here are this week’s Friday’s Faves! Enjoy!
Sweetriot, a globally responsible chocolate company, uses high quality, premium, and all-natural ingredients. Recently they sent me some samples to try out, and my favorite was the 70% Dark Chocolate with Coconut. Now here is the best part – all their chocolate bars are antioxidant packed, vegan, USDA organic, and only 21 calories per square.
If you really love dark chocolate, you’ll love the Pure 85% Dark Chocolate which was too bitter for me.
As much as I enjoy flaxseeds, I didn’t enjoy the bold flavor of flaxseeds in the Pure 70% Dark Chocolate w/Flax.
Additionally, in the little tins each “peace” of chocolate is only 1 – 2 calories, but I assure you that you’ll need quite a few to taste the flavor. I loved the chocolate pieces with espresso. So good!
For now, I will most definitely be purchasing the Dark Chocolate with Coconut since it curbs my sweet tooth and is antioxidant packed. ~ $5 a bar @ Whole Foods, Duane Reade, Wegmans, and more
2. Carrot & Banana Cupcakes @ Billy’s Bakery
After a wonderful brunch in Chelsea this past weekend, my husband and I headed to Billy’s Bakery for a couple cupcakes to go. I realize I said once the holidays are over I won’t be baking anything unhealthy, so instead I decided to buy something unhealthy. That’s allowed, and balance is key! Both cupcakes were so moist and delicious, not to mention topped off with a pile of cream cheese frosting. I wouldn’t expect anything less of Billy’s Bakery, but perfection. ~ $3 each @ Billy’s Bakery, New York City (Chelsea)
3. Silver Linings Playbook
A romantic-comedy starring hottie Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and Robert De Niro. This movie focuses around two individuals (Bradley and Jennifer) facing challenging circumstances, separately. They lean on one another and ultimately develop a connection, hence the silver linings appear. The surprise in this movie for me was Anupum Kher, a legendary Indian actor, who plays Bradley Cooper’s therapist in the film. Overall, I enjoyed this movie, it was pretty funny at times, and quite heavy at other times, but I’m not quite sure the “romantic” label is right for this film. Additionally, I am not sure what the Oscar buzz is about, it was good, but not amazing for me. Lastly, Jennifer Lawrence was brilliant in this movie, just 22 years old and her acting skills are impressive. It is no wonder she took home a Golden Globe for Silver Linings.
