Friday’s Favorite Things - 1.11.13

Happy Friday Everyone!  I haven’t done a Friday’s Favorite Things post in a while because in December I was too busy doing posts on “my favorite things of the year.”  Without further ado, here are my Friday’s Favorites.  Enjoy!

1. Cupcakes @ The Magnolia Bakery, New York City
My blogger friend, Ameena of Fancy That Fancy This, was in town last week and the “only” day we could meet up was on my husband’s birthday for a quick coffee.  I figured on my way home I would pick up dessert for my husband, however Ameena was so incredibly sweet and picked up 2 cupcakes from The Magnolia Bakery for me to take home.  Both my husband and I were very touched by her thoughtful gesture.  Thanks for the delicious cupcakes and a lovely talk Ameena, I had so much fun, and I hope next time we’ll have more time for a proper sit-down dinner.

The next day I made my husband this Chocolate Chip Skillet Cookie that we devoured with the family, it was so soooooooo good.  Happy Birthday VS!!!  ~ pricelessphoto (2)

2.
Mrs. Smith’s Classic Dutch Apple Pie
This is my annual dessert that I purchase around the holidays, just in time before my friend, Marian, visits me Christmas time.  She’s the only other person I know who loves Mrs. Smith’s Apple Pie as much as I do, and I only bake this pie around the holidays when Marian comes over.  Believe it or not, I would take Mrs. Smith’s “highly preservative” Apple Pie any day over the freshly baked ones, I don’t know what it is, it just hits the spot every time.  Taste it once to believe it.  ~ $5 @ most grocery storesphoto 5

3. Guacamole Bowl

When my friend, Jhiane, returned from her Mexico vacation and handed me this vibrant bowl, I instantly said I would use it as a jewelry showpiece.  She exclaimed, "jewelry showpiece?  It’s a GUACAMOLE BOWL!"  Oops!  How did I miss that one?  Thanks Jhiane for a sweet gift from Mexico that I will serve you guacamole in someday, very soon.  ~ pricelessFettuccine_Alfre_575

DISLIKE OF THE WEEK
Whole Foods Everyday 365 Greek Yogurt 0% w/Blueberry & Pomegranate
Someone on my blog mentioned that Whole Foods’ Greek Yogurt is really good and I gave it a try, but OMG it was so bitter for my taste buds and the fruit was way too sweet.  I couldn’t even get thru half the yogurt.  For the same cost I would much rather buy Chobani or Fage.  ~ $1.50 @ Whole Foods

  3. Ah I totally would've crashed your coffee with Ameena- 2 of my favorite bloggers together :)! Between the cupcakes, cookie cake and the thought of guacamole, I can't decide what sounds best ha! A favorite of mine from this week are savory pancakes made with brown rice. It was such a great way to use up leftover rice and very tasty. Will be sure to post the recipe soon :)!

  8. @Khushboo - Oooh pancakes and rice... that's interesting, I'd love to see your recipe. I think between the 3 choices, the guacamole wins... common, it's Mexican food.

  13. Hi Nisha,
Every time I visit New York I have to visit Magnolia bakery for their banana pudding. I think I easily gain 5 pounds right there as I can eat tubs and tubs of it.
In fact, my mother in law usually stocks up the refrigerator with it. The chocolate cupcake looks amazing!

  22. The cupcakes sounds yumm:).Nice to know about your favorites. Actually the greek yogurt from Trader Joe's is really good. I have used it only for making desserts - cheesecake and an Indian dessert called Shrikand( I am sure you wud know this one):).

  23. @Nina - Thanks! You know, I've tried the organic yogurt from TJ's and I loved it, I haven't tried the Greek Yogurt yet, I'll give it a shot. Heard of Shrikand, but never made it. :-(
