This past weekend my husband and I took his brother (my bro-in-law) to NYC for sightseeing. We wanted to cover Times Square and Rockefeller Center, however due to the brutally cold weather we ended up skipping Rockefeller Center and going to Madame Tussauds instead. Quite honestly, I was looking forward to Rockefeller since The Magnolia Bakery is just a block away – yeah, I’m always thinking about food! 🙂
As I write this post I still can’t get over how cold it was, so much so that I had to purchase earmuffs off of a street vendor. It was easily below freezing and extremely windy. Now although I am not a fan of roaming around Times Square because it is overly crowded, noisy, and overpriced, it is the first destination most visitors/family members wanna see when they come to NYC – understandably so. We walked around Times Square taking pictures.
Seriously, I wonder what the electricity bill in Times Square is. Anyone know?
After maybe an hour of walking around, my feet were frozen, my hands were hurting, my nose was red, and I was hungry. We were searching for a pizza place and luckily we found a Ray’s Pizza which happens to be one of my favorite pizza places in Manhattan, however this particular location (736 7th Ave.) didn’t seem quite as exceptional as the one in the West Village, but still good.
I was so hungry, I devoured a slice, and then another! It was so good. New York City Pizza RULES – there is NOTHING like it! Long, thin, & cheesy slices – I can never get enough! I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a bad pizza slice in NYC.
Once we went out I felt the winter coming on even more, the winds grew stronger. By this point I yearned for a cup of coffee and I wanted it from Europa Cafe – although it is a chain in NYC, I really enjoy their coffee, even more than Starbucks. Europa Cafe’s coffee is medium bodied, it is a bit strong – but not as strong as Starbucks.
Like myself, if you can’t handle strong coffees, get cream instead of milk – I do that occasionally when I get strong coffee. It was so good and warmed me up as we walked to Madame Tussauds.

Anyone OBSESSED with Celebrities, Families with Teenage Kids
PURCHASED FROM @ COST
Purchase tickets at Madame Tussauds at $35.50 per person… a bit high if you ask me, but again, if you are celebrity obsessed, it may be worth it.
TIP: Bring your AAA or Optimum Rewards card and get 15% off – I have neither. 🙁
TIP 2: Look for online deals prior to visiting Madame Tussauds.
As you walk up the stairs…
… leading you to the elevators, you will be greeted by an employee who will instruct you on what signs to follow throughout the museum. You will start on the 9th floor and work your way down to the 5th floor.
Once the elevators open to the 9th floor, standing tall is a statue of RuPaul.
Stairs lead you downstairs where you’ll see major celebrities such as, Jennifer Aniston, Tyra Banks, to name a few.
Here are some of MY favorites…
Of course, we have to start with OPRAH! She looked so gorgeous in her silk purple shirt and they perfected Oprah’s wax figure, I mean they couldn’t exactly mess it up, its Oprah! She was the only celebrity I was super excited to see and took 2 pictures with her… I was holding her hand in one of them and gazing up at her with admiration in the second one.
Another favorite is Jennifer Lopez, – she’s so hot, and I can’t believe this woman is 40! I liked her dress, although I wish they dressed her up in something more J.Lo-like… gotta remember that green dress she wore to the Grammy(ies)!
It took me a minute to figure out who this celebrity was and when I saw the kitchen in the background, I instantly knew it was Rachael Ray. With all due respect, I believe the wax figure didn’t quite do justice to what Rachel looks like in real life – I think she is much prettier on TV. What do you think?
And then there he was… India’s most famous actor – ShahRukh Khan! He looked awesome. They did a really nice job with his wax figure and it was great seeing a Bollywood section of wax figures.
When I saw President and Michelle Obama I was so excited, once again! I took a picture with them.
I love Britney, I don’t care what they say about her, and she’s back with a BANG!
My most favorite singer in the world… Shakira… she is one celebrity I am actually obsessed with, besides Oprah! 🙂
On the way home I picked up some Chicken over Rice from one of the street vendors – I love Manhattan street food. I split it with my husband when we got back to our place. I didn’t wanna overeat since we ate greasy pizza earlier. 🙂
VERDICT – 3 / 5
Overall, Madame Tussauds was a fun experience and it would be a ton more fun if you are celebrity obsessed… I guess it may be worth seeing once. It basically takes you to a fantasy world of glamour where you can mingle with a bunch of actors, singers, politicians, and athletes. Quite frankly, $35.50 is a bit steep to shell out on each ticket. I suggest doing some research beforehand and try to find discounted tickets, especially if you are a family with kids.
When I left Madame Tussauds I couldn’t help but think about which celebrities were missing… and then I realized… no TOM CRUISE! WHAT? Or did I miss him? Isn’t he like one of the world’s most famous actors? Shocking!
Personally, I thought the museum was okay – I honestly don’t see what the hype is about, but maybe that’s just me! If you must see this museum though, see it once and be done with it.
TELL ME: Have you been to Madame Tussauds, and if so, what did you think of it?
