A few weeks ago my friends, husband, and I went to Crumbs Bake Shop in Union Square, NYC. It was the same night we went to see the J.Lo movie, The Back-up Plan. There has been so much hype about this bakery I had to put this place to the test and see for myself.

Was I in cupcake heaven or what? There is a vast selection of cupcakes to choose from. This bakery is really cute.
MENU – $
Crumbs Bake Shop Menu. The cupcakes here are huge, seriously huge (Signature Size). They go for about $3.50 a cupcake (25 cents more or less) which is pretty good considering their size. They also have smaller cupcakes at a cheaper cost. What I love is Crumbs mentions the calories in each cupcake which is great to know, roughly about 500 calories in each big cupcake.
For 2 people (my hubby & I)
2 big size cupcakes = $7
Let me start by saying I decided to get the Cosmo Cupcake prior to entering the bakery, unfortunately they were sold out by 8:30 pm. 🙁 Due to the number of cupcakes here, I must have spent about 10 minutes trying to decide which cupcake to get next, of course, as always I resorted to my favorite, the Red Velvet Cupcake. My husband quickly decided on the Cookie Dough Cupcake. I personally thought the cake itself was okay, however the frosting was excessively sweet for my liking. What’s worse is they add sprinkles on top of the frosting which is totally unnecessary for such sweet frosting. This cupcake is a meal on its own and I only ate half of it. In addition, the cupcake and frosting did not taste fresh to me, it almost lacked flavor. It didn’t have that buttery and fresh taste one would expect of a cupcake.
VERDICT – 3 / 5
When I sit down to eat a cupcake, I expect to be in cupcake heaven. What I mean is, I want to imagine myself in another world where I forget about my daily life and all my worries, a place where I can just sit down and enjoy a wonderful cupcake. I didn’t have that feeling with Crumbs which breaks my heart because I really wanted to love these cupcakes. I take my cupcakes seriously and I know a great cupcake when I taste one. On the contrary, I loved how all the cupcakes looked so pretty, I love that Crumbs lists the calories for each cupcake, and I loved the size of the cupcakes… worth the cost. This is a bakery I would go to if there were no other bakeries around the neighborhood. Because I consider myself to be a softy, I do plan to give Crumbs another chance and try other cupcake flavors, who knows; maybe I’ll love it next time?
